Hacking Question Why won't my Switch go into RCM mode?

People have said they look fine.

Still nothing my friend.

Like I said I'm new to the scene. I wasn't really looking to get hands on with this, that's why I bought multiple jigs since I figured it'd be a piece of cake.

These Jigs seem like they'd be difficult to cut through. Not really understanding what you mean either. Hard to visualize it.

What makes you say that? Some people are saying they're good while others are saying their bad. What do I believe?

If yours looks the same I can't even imagine what the issue here is. I just feel so unlucky.

Tried holding it, same result. The Nintendo logo pops up so fast as well. It's like there's not even a chance that it could load into RCM mode.

could you post your method , or a video please

this seems very odd ive not known a switch to not go into rcm

at 4:01 is the exact method I follow

this is not your method

well theres your problem lol

Dont plug in usb cable till after the button combo lol

hold power for atleast 20 secs.
Use ur rcm jig the good one.
then press and hold volume up then press power once...

then plug in usb cable
tegra will tell you rcm connected

i use same the jig. it seems the clips don't touch the pins. you should push the clips on the jig just a little bit and put %90 of the jig to the rail, not all of it.

Uhhhhhh, no, having the usb cable connected before going into RCM is fine, it has no bearing on being able to enter RCM or not. I always plug it into the pc first, it turns on, i turn it off completely, add my "jig", do the button combo, badabing badaboom, it works. You don't have t hold the power button either, you just have to hold the volume button, then PRESS the power button. The issue here is not the button combo and mot likely not the cable either. The issue here is, most likely, in the jig itself

My first jig is the one that comes with the SX pro, and I want to chime in...
No wonder a lot of people are saying the SX pro jig is one of the best, if not the best, jig out there.

Those jigs (and most jigs on eBay) look terrible compared to it, like they're made out of paperclips that were just stuck into their 3D printed stuff.
The SX pro jig's pins look like the actual pins on a joycon's rail compared to these "upgraded paperclips".

It works 100% of the time for me, whether I insert it in all the way, or even "just the tip" [twss]

I was so confident with them, I used them to do the method: "firmware update, but prevent fuses burning by going into RCM IMMEDIATELY after the update restart"

ily, I finally got it. WAAAAAAY more difficult than I had to be. I adjusted the paper clip and tried my best to slide it in to 90%ish

Thank you to everyone that could bear with me. Must be bad Jigs like most people were saying.

That looks clean. I'm still a noob to all of this but I finally got it. Will I need to keep entering RCM mode? I just plan on playing emulators and things of that nature.

The two green ones look like the wire is out of place (the wire should be in the grooves but on the right side it appears to be out of place)
The left one looks correct except maybe the wire had been pressed too flat to make contact. You should look inside the slot when inserting it and make sure it's touching pins 1 and 10.

As i said before, a jig has to be very precisely placed to touch the right pins. And no, technically you wont need to ,just don't switch of the Switch completely, leave it in sleep mode. the only time you might have to turn it off completely is to access the SD card, otherwise just leave it on sleep mode

Well done... not that i want credit but i did mention the paper clip and not this silly tin foil method..

You could install auto rcm if you wish so no need for jig

but before you even decide read up on auto rcm first.

Now you have access to a bootloader. please make a full clean backup of your nand.

I ended up connecting it with the blue one. Good eye.

Same here. I tried for a couple of days making paper clip jigs, and everything else I could find online. I finally was able to enter RCM reliably with tin foil, and by plugging the switch into my PC via USB before holding down volume and hitting the power button. this would turn on the switch. Then I hold the power down until i get the option to power down. I then hold down volume and then I hold down power for one second. If it's going to work i instantly hear the sound my pc makes when I plug in a USB device. If you try this method there are only a couple of things that will prevent it from entering rcm mode. either you do not have the pins properly shorted, or you don't have the correct driver installed. the later won't prevent you from entering rcm mode, but your pc won't properly recognize the device if you have not installed the correct driver. Although the pc will install a generic driver. Not once have I been able to enter RCM mode with anything other than the tinfoil method. As long as you are careful you will be just fine using that method. I'm not saying anyone else here is wrong. just saying what works for me.

was quite easy with a nail scissor tho. 3D printed material ain't that super hard

Exact same method i use, works 100% of the time for me. And no i'm not criticizing any other method, they all have risks, they are all dangerous but this one works for me perfectly and so far hasn't damaged anything so i'm going to continue using it for the foreseeable future(Then again i don't turn off my Switch unless i need to access the SD card so). Of course, people will always criticize other methods just because they don't like them but whatcha gonna do?

Thread responses =/= Cancer

Only a few helpful posts. Glad you got it working. :creep:

For my first boot I used a paperclip. Man my hands were sore after bending that sucker in just the right way.

Make due with what you have or what you can afford. AutoRCM is king though, imo. Unless you want to boot stock all the time on your native firmware (no updating.)
