What would you do if you had a 3.0 Switch and SX Pro?

If you're not worried about your cart slot, then go directly to 5.x, if you are, then you have to stay below 4.x. The 3.0.1 update burnt a fairly important fuse (sm access I believe).

Wait for TX to add emunand, they're working on it hopefully it will come soon.

I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for TX to produce emunand, the scene is not in it's best shape atm, and TX is fairly dependent on the scenes code to produce results. I would think you might see something sooner from TX along the lines of not burning your card slot fuse when updating...

You have 2 choices.

1) Wait for softwareHAX.
2) Sell you low FW switch for a profit and buy a newer one to use with TX. (Updating a lower FW is a crime against the scene)

I have been using TX products since my original Xbox. Obviously they use Jobs philosophy of why do it when you can steal it, but when that fails they are more than capable of coming up with their own. You can bet your ass they will have emunand out soon™.

OP, just update to 5.1.0 using the no fuse burn method. I did it yesterday from 3.0.0, yes it takes a long time but if you know how to use a computer well you should have no issues. Also, in the future when (possibly) coldboot comes to 3.0.0, you can downgrade back to your firmware and enjoy coldboot! That way, you can enjoy the current games and wait till something free comes out (who knows when that will be).

The only downside to this is that you cartridge slot won't work on any firmware lower than 4.0.0 once you go back, but quite honestly, it's not that big of an issue. There may be a fix for it later, and you will probably playing all of your games digitally cuz "backups" ;). And in the future (if and) when coldboot comes to newer firmware, your cartridge slot will work again.

Good luck :D

Actually there may be an issue if in the future a physical cart is needed for some reason.

Yeah, it would be an issue :(. But I mean if that happened, you could always update to 4.1.0, get your cartridge slot working, and have warmboot :)
Apparently it's not an issue anymore if using Hekate...

STEP 10: LAUNCHING THE FIRMWARE ANY OTHER TIME
IF YOUR CARTRIDGE SLOT WORKS ON <4.0.0 FIRMWARE AND YOU WISH TO KEEP IT THAT WAY, YOU MUST ALWAYS LOAD 4.0.0 OR HIGHER FIRMWARE USING THE [FS_XXX] OPTION WHICH USES REPLACEMENT FS_XXX_nogc.kip1 SYSMODULE VIA HEKATE ! EVEN A SINGLE BOOT WITHOUT THAT SYSMODULE REPLACEMENT USED WILL PERMANENTLY UPGRADE THE GAME CARTRIDGE CONTROLLER FIRMWARE TO THE 4.0.0 VERSION, MAKING IT UNUSABLE IN EARLIER FIRMWARES (so any "CFW" ini files you use YOU MUST ADD THE PROPER FS_XXX_nogc.kip1 LINE TO ALL ENTRIES).

Yeah, but it sounds like OP is using SX OS, and if they are, then you can't do the bypass unfortunately. I ran into the same thing, it really sucks that TX didn't add it in if they aren't going to add emunand, because it would help so many users.

Plus what if you need to be on 3.0.0 AND need the use of a cart for some future bootHAX exploit? Screwed...

I'm sure TX is working on it.

Fortunately I'm PC MASTER RACE and can easily wait to play nintendo games, I really only use it as a portable anyway not my main gaming machine but that's just me.

there is not reason to stay on any firmware lower than 5.1.0 using sx pro.
non sx pro or sx users can wait for atmosphere and stick to 3.0.0
Did 3.0.1 break whatever people are waiting for on 3.0.0?

I have a 3.0.1 switch.

1. DONT USE TX YET! resist all temptation of cfw or homebrew for now
2.enter rcm and do a nand backup. save it so you dont lose it
3.update to 5.1.0 using rajkostas guide or other easier guides
4.enter eshop and download free games
5.delete internet settings
6. make another nand backup and dont lose it.
7.now enter tx and play. if you want to go online again, restore the second nand.(although itll get rid of all your save data at least you wont get banned)

I've got a 2.3.0 Switch that I've been saving for hax. Don't care about bans because I have a second Switch for online.

Is there any point saving that 2.3.0 Switch or should I just update to 5.1.0 and use SX?

I understand that I can update to 5.1.0 without burning fuses, but my cart slot will not work on anything under 4.0 if I downgrade. Not a big deal as I'll use my carts in my other Switch.

I also see that I don't even need to buy the dongle and can just buy a license and use my paperclip JIG :)

Because I bought an SX Pro, and I was willing to try it out. I went ahead and updated my console OFW v1.0.0 to 5.1.0 If I had known about all this burning fuses business before I updated my consoles OFW along with finding out that Atmosphere is not going to be supported anything beyond OFW 4.1.0 when released. I would of left my console at OFW v1.0.0

That's why I bought a second Switch with OFW 4.1.0 so I could have the opportunity to use Atmosphere when it becomes available and updated to be used on OFW 4.1.0.

So I guess I could say that I got the best of both worlds because now I have one Switch for TX OS use only, and a second Switch for whatever OFW comes our way in the near future...:D

SX offers nothing over Atmosphere. If I were you, I'd return the SX Pro while I could and patiently wait for Atmosphere.
ReSwitched has absolutely no intention of adding XCI loading or NSP patches to Atmosphere, as well as being available right now, so that's a few things SX OS offers over Atmosphere.
I find their recent actions extremely distasteful, but SX OS definitely has its advantages.
Maybe ReiNX will shake things up a little in the future.

You had to read and get information b4 updated your console baby!!

OK, so today is the day. My SX PRO will be here today! Happy happy, joy joy! I think I will use the no fuses update method to go to 4.1 Then Ill have plenty of games to choose from. Ill be able to downgrade back if needed and won't have to deal with the cartridge slot fuse frying. BOTW Champions Ballad should work as well as SMO! I can wait on this firmware for a long time. Also. I am looking at the tutorial to update without burning fuses, it's pretty complicated. Nothing like the original A9LH install,l but not easy.. I noticed NSP games need a donor. I can't get E-shop on 3.0 or 4.1. So do I need to update to 4.1 (no burn method), use the same method to update all the way to 5.1 with the temp file for the cart slot. Download the Pokemon game for a donor. Then downgrade back to 4.1? Will I be able to use the Pokemon game as a donor after the move back to 4.1? Did I get all of that right? Whats the best course of action friends!? What do you guys think?
