Would you buy a new dock which upgrades Switch quality to match its competitors?

  • I bought a Switch to play on the go. Why would I play it on my TV? That's what a console is for!

TL;DR: A new dock with extra power to increase the quality of a game on Switch to make it look like a competitor.

The Switch dock, as many believe, overclocks the CPU/GPU of the Switch and allows it to run while not looking totally horrid on a 60 inch screen. This is wrong, the Switch dock only allows the Switch to run at maximum power, because it's no longer running off battery power, so it doesn't have to worry about draining one. Nintendo somehow found a happy medium between play and percentage. Resultantly, games look slightly better, but if you have a Switch, you know it's nothing close to a real console. But the Switch is a hybrid, so it truly is unfair to compare. The dock's only real job is to power the Switch by wall power, connect the USB and HDMI connections, and display a cool green light. Rumors suggest Nintendo is working on a more powerful Switch 2.0, but what if Nintendo took a different approach: a new dock. But not just one with more USB ports or different colors, or one that doesn't warp due to the heavy breathing of its partner in crime. What if Nintendo released a dock with external CPU/GPU/anything that will make it look good on a larger screen? The result would be the Switch being able to run games at console quality, albeit only in TV mode, which wasn't really the original point of the Switch, but it is still something. I know that there are a lot of Switch owners on this forum who haven't even touched the dock, so chances are slim Nintendo would ever even attempt something like this but it's still worth a try. But in docked mode, we would be able to experience games the same as on the Xbox, PS4 and PC. This would also enable fair crossplay. There is so much potential for a dock 2.0, it would really stink for Nintendo to pass up an opportunity like this. Though I'm no expert, I feel a dock like that would cost a maximum of $75, which isn't a bad price for playing Fortnite at 1080p 60fps with Joy-Cons. And I think we can all picture the demand for for a Dock 2.0. Unfortunately, this wouldn't really bring any super powerful games to the system, as the games would still need to run in handheld mode (although if you check in the eShop, there is a section for what modes each game is playable in, but as of now every game on the store is playable in all three modes (Handheld, TV and Tabletop) but it is interesting why they would include a section for that). But what do you all think, should Nintendo try releasing a second dock which improves gameplay or just stick to upgrading the specs of the Switch Pro? And would you buy Dock 2.0 if it came out?

So it would overclock the system or something instead of just clocking it as intended compared to the underclocked handheld mode? Hells no, unless you want a bunch of heat related systems dying. It'd be worse than the shitty lead free solder that did in so many of the rrod 360's

He's talking about an external gpu or something

Althought I love the idea of a external gpu dock, i doubt we would get any significant gains if they where to price it at the 75 dollar mark
