Summer 2018 promotions - GBAtemp's New Mod Army

new_mods.png

After a long review process - 14 of our current and former staff took part in this two-round vote, with over 120 applications in total; we have chosen to elect 10 new moderators who will be assigned to different forum categories. In alphabetical order:

AlanJohn: PC, Other systems, Other discussions
DinohScene: Microsoft consoles, Sony consoles, Other discussions
Flame: 3DS, NDS/i, Other systems
gamesquest1: Switch, 3DS, Other systems
Joe88: Switch, PC, Other discussions
linuxares: Switch, 3DS, Wii, Wii U
osaka35: PS4, Switch, 3DS
Quantumcat: Switch, 3DS, Other discussions
WeedZ: 3DS, Sony consoles, Other discussions
x65943: Switch, GBAtemp Network discussions, Wii, Wii U

Additionally, Foxi4 has been promoted to Global Moderator, and our beloved Chary is now a Senior Editor (a new group with supervisor-level mod powers). Congratulations to all our new recruits and promoted staff!

I'd also like to say a word about some of our friends who are officially retiring: raulpica, TwinRetro, GeekyGuy, and ProtoKun7. They'll be sticking around as Former staff. They have been amazing people to work with and I'm sure a lot of you will be sad to see them go as well. But guys, if you ever want to get back in the game we'll always keep an open door for you.

I am going to PM everyone who applied and didn't get elected. Remember this is an election so all votes are subjective. I won't be able to provide you with specific reasons why you weren't chosen by the 14 voters (simply because it's a vote, and we vote for people, not against) but I can tell you that if you keep a positive behavior, if you continue actively contributing to the community, you might very well get another shot when we decide we need a fresh batch of mods again. Thank you everyone for making this community awesome!

I just want to say it was a pleasure to work with you all. It will be hard work, especially with all the Switch breakthroughs.

My only point of advice is this: Respect is earned. Don't be discouraged if you find yourself met with a lot of resistance in the beginning. Your work will shine through, and people will start seeing you as a productive member of the staff team. Keep your cool. Be unshakeable.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'll be booking my vacation before you guys change your mind.

Some people I didn’t expect to see. Others I knew would get the position eventually (@Quantumcat I figured you would have gotten it some time ago, actually), but good to see we have new people coming in to replace the retired.
@Costello when will the apps be open again? Will it be next Summer, or simply when a batch of staff decide to retire? I would have applied - I think I have what it takes, but I can’t be super active, since I have two Discord servers to moderate and one to administrate. I’ll also have school when summer ends and I’ll have a lot of homework. Maybe next year I’ll apply. Congratulations to the new mods, and good luck! To the retiring staff, I wish you a good retirement!

Its about time we had a new set of slaves on the site.

Take care of the temp my loves.

If you ever betray it I will come to your house and stab you with a knife.
Do you have a license for that knife dear UK citizen? Or do we need to come to your house and file down the edge?

Yay for most, shame one breaks my ignore list. Bit out of order that, maybe can find a greasemonkey script to fix that.
It would be advisable that you don't ignore a person in the moderating team in the event that you yourself need to report something or become somehow entangled in an issue that requires moderation. I'm sure squinting every now and then is easier than implementing a complicated script just to avoid one person that may need to contact you in the future.

But I'm confused, when did @Foxi4 become global mod? OP doesn't mention that.
Additionally, Foxi4 has been promoted to Global Moderator, and our beloved Chary is now a Senior Editor (a new group with supervisor-level mod powers). Congratulations to all our new recruits and promoted staff!
OP does mention that lol

120 applications? Dang, didn't know so many users would be eager to help mod the site. Guess I'm never making it on!

Congrats to all the new moderators too, they're all fairly well known users and seem like they're good choices for the mod team! And @Foxi4 and @Chary, who've both also been good help to the site.

Never modded humans willingly before, should be fun. Thank you for the chance to continue my research.

Thanks for this! Didn't think anyone noticed me overly much, so i'm fairly surprised. Happy to join the team. Hope to serve everyone well.

I may be a newcommer.
But actually, been around for many years.
I wanted my old account deleted because this site became a time waster for me.
Deciding not to spent that much time on here, I reached out for a moderator, asking them politely to erase my account for that reason.
Then, the days passed by, and I didn't got a reply.
At the fourth day, I reached a different moderator telling him:

If you do not delete my account, I will post rom and porn sites on every forum.
BAM! Sudden ban! It worked in less than 5 minutes.

So, what I'm trying to tell you here, is...
NEW MODERATORS... PLEASE DO NOT BEHAVE LIKE THIS.
If an user is asking you for help, do listen to that user and while I do understand that you're not all day here for us (the regular and common user) take some time to check if everything's going right.

So.. you're Gizametalman?

I remember saying to Chary and a few others that if Quantumcat wasn't hired as moderator that I would have everyone on GBATemp raid Costello's Private Message inbox with messages until she got hired. Glad I don't have to do that! Congrats, everyone! Don't get too overwhelmed, I expect great things from you all!
