There will be a software exploit up to 3.0.2 at launch. <4.1.0 will get one later. Higher than that, you'll need to RCM.

Not sure if it was directed at me but I don't mean to fight. I'm just wondering as of where's the source of this info case I've been lurking on the scene for a while but didn't knew about that. Maybe I missed something.

I hear ya, I thought it was a one-time RCM, then a software boot into EmuNAND. Not sure where I got that from, but I'ma just go with the Mandela Effect and not question it. This is a lot better, so I'm happy it's what's happening!

Seeing as I'm not exactly tech savvy, I became very lost very quickly while reading the latest set of bickering. Was it over whether or not an untethered softmod will be present at Atmosphere's launch for ≤ 4.1.0?

Yep. We know it's coming but we don't know where the claim that it will be released alongside atmosphere came from. Still wating for the source for that one.

Then go look through the forum. SciresM stated it multiple times 1.0 will be first, then users up to 3.0 will be next and then up to 4.1.0. Don't be so lazy and look it up yourself. Pretty sure it is somewhere beneath the 1000 pages of misinformation

Cause the diffence between 3.0.2 and 4.1.0 there is no benefits to keep the 3.0.2 fw.

No, coldboot is only possible up to 3.0.2 in the future so I advise you to not

I'm also curious who announced it, when it was announced, and where it was announced. It doesn't seem to have been in this thread, I've read it in full and I've been following it since early April. I'm pretty sure I would have made a mental note since I'm on 4.1.0.

The closest I saw from your pics that state that it will be released for 4.1.0 the same day of Atmosphere's release was a question, not an answer. And the answer ScriesM gave didn't confirmed it. Is that question your source?

No it was in the NOT update threads that have been buried by the countless new threads but he did state it there a couple of times

Nope it has been stated a We already have the webkit exploit and the kernel exploit is useless for RCM users but works by loading it through the webkit exploit only users up to 4.1.0 have and has been stated a million times already that it will be released at the same day atmosphere will be released

You can't but you can when atmosphere releases using webkit exploit and through that using the kernel exploit to load it on the release day but at this moment of time you can't seeing that Atmoshpere still hasn't released. But SciresM said multiple times to be patient and that users up to 4.1.0 can when atmosphere releases without the use of a jig

I'm probably not going to even bother RCM/jig is too much of a hassle, and I'm already on 5.1.0, so I'll pass, or maybe get lucky and find a 3.0.0 console for a normal price.

I don't see any particular technical reason to upgrade your unit to 4.1.0 specifically. These versions are mostly equivalent from my perspective, and SciresM, Motezazer, and I have collaborated on non-coldboot hacks that still give us full system access on versions up to 4.1.0.

Q: Is it reasonable to upgrade from <console version here> to the latest?

This is always a question that depends on what matters to you. In general, I'd say a there are a few heuristics that help to make the decision:

• I'd never upgrade a 1.0.0 console-- these are a rare firmware version with software that's filled with delightful issues. If you have one and want a latest-firmware version now, I'd suggest selling it and buying a new console-- currently, this appears to be profitable.
• Versions below 3.0.1 but above 1.0.0 still have some pretty neat value to them-- they have a very powerful vulnerability that allows access to most of the system. However, it's up to you if you want to hold on to these versions. I'd suggest it, but it's entirely possible that it is worth more to you be able to e.g. use your switch online right now than it is to have the possibility of using those software exploits in the future.
• Versions between 3.0.1 and 4.1.0 still have vulnerabilities that we've proven to work, but they don't give you the immediate fun that switches in the previous two categories do. There's still a case for holding onto these until all details regarding Fusée Gelée are released, so you can understand what the advantages and disadvantages are of Fusée Gelée before upgrading.

It's always up to you whether you want to upgrade. We've used the mantra "lower is better" for some time, and I think that still generally applies, but the situation obviously has a lot more subtleties than can be fit in a three-word phrase.

It's easy just go on ebay and ask sellers to tell you the FW beforehand
