I think it's because people will bitch about having to buy the same games yet again on a new system and the lack of a virtual console means companies can sell retro compilations at the price of a retail title like the Mega Man compilations.

EDIT: And the mini consoles. I completely forgot about those.

Exploits bro, exploits...
the more programs the more possibilities for exploits. Look at the 3ds. Soundhax, swapdoodle, system transfer, web browser, ds compatibilty, Virual console on the WiiU...these were all entrance gates.

And now think about why the Nintendo Switch doesn't feauture all these things

I think it's because they think/know it takes away sales from their emulators-in-a-box lineups. How many Virtual Console games have ended up on the 3DS since they released the SNES Mini? I'm not sure, but I think it's zero.

Or maybe they are just waiting and will eventually do it and make people happy about a feature you'd just expect normally.

people saying exploits are blind lol, the amount of people that hack their console is negligible, its under 10%, the reason they arent doing VC is

Nes mini (restocked soon)
snes mini
Probably n64 mini ashwell soon, they can sell you mini consoles and gain much more than they ever did on VC that and also keep adding goodies to the paid online, it might start with 20 nes games, then they can add snes and n64 and so on games to get more paying costumers.

because they rebrand it as part of their online service and because of the success of the minis.

they'll take some more money from the minis and then add games to their online service again

Yeah not many are hacking theire console but most of the people that hack it are pirating games that are worth several thousand €

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Maybe because of both..

The mini consoles and homebrew

people that hack it would probably never buy most of those games either lol, they got them because they were free or else they would have bough just one or two that they want,, and like i said hacking has barely any effect on anything since 90%+ of the console gamers.Remenber on wiiu people asking for more than 100 title for the home menu, do you really think they would have bough 100 games? no they would probably buy 2 or 3 and forget the rest.

heck i remember a pool on wii days that showed hackers buy more games than the casual players do.

MY Huawei MAte 10 pro can emulate everything, it's can even make me a toast is i plug a toaster to type c port. so i use Switch just for Switch games.

It’s becsuse they want to give indie devs a chance. If Nintendo released all their VC games, who would buy the cheap knock off versions made by indie devs

Perhaps Nintendo doesn't think it's worth it? Particularly when it comes to third party licensing.

I wonder what the actual sales figures were? I only ever bought a few on discount as I never really thought they were worth full price.

That said, I think they could have offset the situation by putting more games on the Online service from the start e.g. a few NES games, a few SNES games, etc. Even just first party ones.

Because it takes away the spotlight of the indie devs.Everyone knows most indie devs exploit nostalgia. Most of the well known indie games like Shovel knight, Shantae, and even Blossom tales have similar Gameplay and artstyles to older games. If they released virtual console games that would hurt third parties.

Because the NES and SNES mini each made way more money for Nintendo than Virtual Console ever did. It wouldn't take much effort for them to implement VC on Switch, but they stand to make billions by simply rereleasing NES/SNES mini or upgrading to the inevitable N64 mini. Why sell VC games for a few dollars when they can make $80 per unit selling the same games?

Between their online trash they are going to let you "borrow" a game for a month and the advent of the "mini classic" consoles we are seeing, I would imagine Nintendo doesn't want to create any competition for themselves.

I thought you could keep playing the games as long as you're subscribed?
I am not sure of the specifics. I know that's how PS+ works, and I remember being surprised that Nintendo's policy wasn't the same? I will have to look again and see if I am mis-remembering.
