I have't seen anyone test the depletion rate while its turned off (maybe because its not very useful info but that's just my opinion). Even the numbers for sleep mode can vary depending on who you ask. You also have to account for how many charging cycles your Switch has gone through. The more times you deplete the battery and fully charge it, the smaller the battery life gets. But we don't even know by how much this gets reduced per cycle.

You need Puyo-Puyo for 1.0 because it doesn't have a browser. 3.0 can do it without Puyo-Puyo or a hardmod because of Pegaswitch which is a web-based server. There is no pure softmod solution for 1.0. However, if you don't want to buy Puyo-Puyo and don't mind doing the hardmod, you can wait for someone to convert the Fake News installer into a homebrew app or payload so you won't have to do the hardmod anymore. Fake News is the exploit that is installed via Puyo-Puyo.

So would I need an initial hardmod to install Fake News, and then no hardmods after that?

Is there any reason to stay on 1.0.0 if 3.0.0 has an easier way of installing CFW? Would I lose anything going from 1.0.0 to 3.0.0?

Yes, you would just have to wait for someone to convert the Fake News installer into either an .NRO or a payload.bin. Don't worry, you are not the only user waiting for this as I have met a couple of other users who are in the same boat as you. In terms of staying on 1.0 vs 3.0, there is a chance for an untethered coldboot (not Fake News) for 1.0 that 3.0 may not see. Also, when someone does convert Fake News into either a homebrew or payload, you can use that to not have to use a hardmod anymore whereas 3.0 may be stuck using a hardmod even though there is supposedly a warmboot softmod that is unreleased.

Hello, i just got a rcm 3d printed jig, i have a 64gb micro sd card and the latest 5.x firmware, whats the best way to get homebrew menu access like emulators? Im not really interested in Linux, just homebrew/backuploader/emulator support, which is the best choice for me ? ( I know backuploader isnt there yet)

Use the links provided in this thread: https://gbatemp.net/threads/newest-hekate-sdfiles-zip.506280/
Some of the tutorials are not fully updated but the process is relatively simple if you already know how to enter RCM and send payloads via USB cable.

I bought a new 4.1FW Switch and I haven't played a single game yet.

1) I was wondering if there were any theoritical limitations to the FW and being able to install a CFW.
2) Are there any risks to going online on my Switch or buying games off the eShop?

All firmware will have the potential to get the CFW (don't wanna use the word 'install' because we lack the appropriate keys to sign it to the console). Only difference, for 4.1 especially, is the potential to boot into CFW without using RCM but via a softmod. And if you use a CFW and go online at any point, you risk getting banned if Nintendo detects that you are running a CFW or using any related hacks. There is no exact percentage but expect the risk to be higher with the Switch compared to previous Nintendo devices.

Will it ever be possible to run homebrew applications without being forced to remain on 3.0 and missing out on online play, eshop, games that require 3.0.1+ etc? Just got my switch today so i'm a little unclear on the state of the hacking scene right now.

Currently, we can use homebrew on all firmwares, 3.0 or not. However, we don't have a way yet for you to remain on a specific firmware while being able to enjoy the benefits of being on the latest firmware such as online multiplayer, downloading eShop titles, or updating games. That will change when Atmosphere is finished and comes with EmuNAND support which will allow you to make a copy of your NAND that you can safely update to the latest firmware while keeping your original base SysNAND firmware as low as what it currently is.

Hello guys, I've got a switch in 3.0.2... What should I do? update to 5.1.0 ? or stay in that version? I plan to use atmosphère's cwf and use the homebrew launcher, but it seems that the HL is not available on that version ...

Also if I buy a cartridge of Rocket league which will ask to be at least on 4.0.1. Can I update with the cartridge to that version or will I be at the lastest ?

Thanks a lot !!

They all works aha, don't worry it won't mess up your switch, go ahead and print the one who takes less time

the one with paper clip seems easy to use, however it uses different pins from the other one, and you have to adjust the clip slightly, but the fail0verflow one use usb part.

Is anyone else not able to boot games while running Atmosphére? I've been stuck on the Switch splash screen/animation when trying to boot games in both 5.0.2 and 5.1.0.

Picked up a used Switch for a steal but its on 5.0.2 where does it stand in terms of homebrew and emulators?

I think I can answer. Some emulators work on 5.0.2, like VBA-next and Desmume, but something like beetlepsx (which is in beta anyway) doesn't run. Checkpoint works as does NX-Shell and ftpd. More and more homebrew is being updated for support though, so it probably won't even matter in a month or two. If I were you and I cared about online stuff (like how I have a subscription for Just Dance Unlimited), I would make a full NAND backup and update. 5.1.0 doesn't burn eFuses, and then you can always go back. Just a suggestion. Do take note that none of the Doom or Duke Nukem emulators seem to work, or maybe that's just my case.

Homebrew launcher now works on all firmwares. And if you update using Rocket League, you will be updated to 4.0.1.

In terms of firmware, there is a private softmod for loading CFW that works from 3.0.1-4.1. There is no estimated time of release for it as well as no confirmed softmods for 5.x. There is a possibility this private softmod may work on 5.x which may further delay its public release because there is no point in releasing an unpatched exploit. However, since Atmosphere supports all firmware, updating depends on how long you're willing to wait until its release. Atmosphere will have EmuNAND support which will allow you to update to the latest firmware.

I have a Switch on 2.3.0, can someone tell me the best way to CFW?
Since i have another one, this can stay on 2.3.0 forever!
Atmosphere is currently a work-in-progress CFW. However, users have compiled some of its source code to enable homebrew launching. You can follow this guide: https://t3chnolog1c.github.io/SwitchGuide/

Per the latest builds, this bug should have been fixed. Which CFW build are you using? Something else you can try is to boot a game as soon as Hekate boots into Horizon and never close it. This was a trick that worked before the builds were updated.

I'm on 3.0 and have only played BOTW until just the other day. My console has been in airplane mode with no connections set up for a long time. I finally broke down and started up Mario Kart (day one purchase last April or whatever) and it says an update is available. Is this a game update or a firmware update? And how does it know there is an update available? If this is a game update, is it worth my time or will I always be able to bypass this prompt? I don't get the prompt with BOTW and I can just select "Start Software" with Mario Kart and proceed playing.

Obviously I'm holding out for an emuNAND situation so I don't want a firmware update. I've also had Super Mario Odyssey since day one :/ Until then, I've got a couple hundred more Koroks to go and plenty of Grand Prixs to redo (finished all on Wii U version).

To me, it sounds like a game update because it doesn't prompt upon booting BOTW. One way to make sure it is a game update is by going into the System Settings and checking your version. If there is a system update available, it won't display your version but instead a dialog that a System Update is ready. Also, if you can select Start Software then I believe you answered your own question about being able to bypass that prompt.
