System versions with the same expected number of burnt efuses are interchangeable in principle. If I were to downgrade 2.3.0 to 2.0.0, for example, it should work since they both expect there to be two burnt fuses.
I'm pretty sure nintendo keeps track which console is at which fw version. You may be able to downgrade the fw to a certain version, but your console will probably get banned if you go online.

For everyone saying there is no way to downgrade...
Yeah I guess I'll keep watching. I go on holiday in two weeks time and I want an emulator or two to play but there's no decent working releases at the minute that work on 5.1.0.
Thanks for the advice regardless.
You can downgrade to any previous FW if no fuses were burned between the target FW and the one u are on.

5.1.0 did not burn any fuses so if you mount the Switches emmc using hacdiskmount you can use a disk image writer to downgrade using your rawnand dump.

Just be aware there is no hand-holding process to go by. You will have to know what you are doing to go from 5.1 to 5.0.2. Also, in this case, its not necessarily downgrading as it is more of restoring a NAND backup with 5.0.2

Good thing I've got a backup with 5.0.2.. :x

Thats interesting to know ;). Any idea which(if their are any) other updates haven't gone through a fuse? maybe its possible to drop lower from 5.1? or say from firmware 4.1 to 3.0 for e.g.

You should theoretically also be able to downgrade without a nand dump as well (Don't know if anyone has worked on anything like that, also efuses have to be the same)

No, major updates burn so many eFuses. Skipping some and then updating later is still gonna burn the same number. Here's a list with what firmware releases burned fuses.

v1.0.0 - 1
v2.0.0-2.3.0 - 2
v3.0.0 - 3
v3.0.1-3.0.2 - 4
v4.0.0-4.1.0 - 5
v5.0.0 - 6
I hope this one is right. Having a bit of trouble looking for a more official list.

Those keys are extremely important and there's good reason why nobody has them, outside of them being extremely hard to obtain. If we had them, we could just sign the CFW to the Switch not only defeating the purpose of booting into RCM to reload the exploit but allows us to realistically coldboot into CFW.

Ok but I don't think no one except Nintendo have the keys to sign anything. The keys that have been re are for decryption and encryption AFAIK.
I think that's what they meant. Something like 3ds where we created decrypted ctrnand dumps, and then transferred them and in the process reencrypt for your console.

If we had Nintendo's private signing key we would have persistent CFW, Homebrew launched through Qlaunch and practically anything else we would ever want.

You could even develope your own native games if you have access to the Switch SDK (against the NDA though)

So no we do not have it, and there are no HB devs that have it in private either.

I'm well aware nobody has access to the main signing key that the bootrom verifies. (Unless a miracle happens as on the PS3)

But the original question was about "downgrading" the firmware when the same number of efuses are present. You stated that this could only be down via a NAND dump because of console specific encryption.

However I thought that with the access we have via RCM we can read the Secure Boot Key and Secure Storage Key, and all of the other console specific keys. I definitely might be wrong though :)

Not everyone is living in USA with high wages, not everyone gets everyshit possible bought by their parents, not everyone has a good job.
You dont need to go full retard you know

Likewise. For the same money I could make a significant upgrade to my PC, it's enough of a stretch justifying one console as it is.
no you wrong,i was 5,make the corrections.

Dude, you're absolutely right, I do not understand how everyone is so desperate and impatient, it's as if they could not wait a few more weeks. what are they? little kids? come on.
Patience is the mother of science or in this case of cfw
Weeks? I highly doubt it, sure you could say 3 months are 12 weeks but... We would be lucky to have it release before August
