I had to use a 3.0 device to install the 5.05 update, but can I install PKGs using a 2.0 device?

I have a USB 2.0 HDD (it's a portable external 120GB HDD, so a 2.5 laptop HDD in a cradle) that wont work for me.
I can't get the Package Installer to see any pkg files on it, either formatted as NTFS or as exFat.

It shows up under devices>USB Storage Devices but when I use the installer it says nothing found.
The pgk files are in the root but they just wont show up. I've tried using pkg files that I know work on other USB keys but still no luck.

what am I doing wrong? this is the only USB I have over 16GB, so I really need it to work.

External HDD are normally marked as fixed (i.e detected as a real HDD) while USB Stick are most of the time marked as removeable, and don't even try NTFS it won't work use exFAT

I guess thats the problem just buy a 64 GB or so USB Stick these are cheap anyways.

And another example my PC detects my external 4 TB HDD as a Floppy Disk Device for some reason in the UEFI but i can still use it normally in Windows or Linux

I think your right, I as hoping there was something I was missing and I could avoid buying another USB key but I think I'll have to bite the bullet on this one!

thanks for your help.

You could upgrade your ps4's hard drive with a portable external HDD, then put the old ps4 HDD into the external case and use that to transfer packages, to your new bigger internal HDD
