iSharigan, appreciate the save, I wanted to mess around with it, but I have a question. I'm using the APM save editor, I don't see an import/export character function anywhere in the tool, is there a version of the APM editor I should have to import/export character saves?
there is a separate tool for that in the first post under 'Extra Tools'

Hey all,

I've read a load of pages but I may have missed if this has been mentioned, so apologies if so.

I've backed up my Gen save using MHGSV and moved the MHG folder to my PC.

I've then moved that same folder to another 3DS which is a different region (Jap as opposed to EU) and tried to import it but MHGSV just says it can't find extdata and exits me to the home screen.

Is it known that you can't backup then import from 1 region 3DS to another?

I've done the usual things of running the game to create the extdata.

I'm going to look into JKSM in the morning and hope that can transfer between regions?

Cheers.

I think you need to use the save converter tool to go from MHGEN to MHX, the site won't let me post the hyperlink, but the thread for it is the one below.

He's going between regions not games. You would have to find the folder in the other Nintendo 3DS folder and copy it to the other region one.

To my fellow hunters!

With mhxx coming out I decided to use the 100% completion character import provided on this post. I noticed when editing the guild card there was no guild card # assigned or name.

Will those pose any issues when trying to import? Has anyone imported this save into mhxx?

if you read my post containing the save, you'd know you're supposed to import the ID from your old save - or at least generate one with a new save to copy over. Half of the ID seems to be tied to your system (the first 4 bytes are the same for all 3 saves if made on the same 3DS), any non-zero number will work (zero technically works but it makes your GC both unblockable and unviewable - thus it's nether recommended nor useful) but you run the risk of someone else having/picking that number, thus having the two register as the same person's Guild Card (side effects are you replace each other's cards via streetpass/sharing in lobbies, you're unable to send your GC to/receive a GC from with the other person, and blocking GCs from either one of you blocks both). Copying from one of your own saves (existing or newly made) simply lets the RNG and system ID do the work of ensuring a unique number.

The name on the Guild Card will update after you save in-game at least once.

I apologize I think I misinterpreted the part where it said to copy over your character data when I initially imported. By copying over did you mean import the save template over an existing save slot? By import the ID do you mean manually copy it and input it into the 100% save?

save a backup of your old save (for reference). Copy the template over whatever slot you want. Use the data from you old save to fill in blank spots in the template (specifically name and Guild Card ID minimum, but optionally items, palicos, etc. just make sure if importing palicos you also copy your palico equip box EXACTLY AS IT IS IN THE SOURCE SAVE, too, to avoid crashes)

Figured it out the hardway for palicos lol. Thanks though I'll give everything a look over tonight!

Just prepping for mhgu, sold my old ds with my save. Too lazy to start from scratch.

how do i do the whole save editor for mhgen thing?
export your save with checkpoint/JKSM on your 3DS (needs homebrew of CFW to achieve), download the save editor to your computer and copy the exported save off your 3ds to your computer, too. Then load the save with the editor, edit, save and coppy the editied file back to your 3ds. all that's left then is import the save to your game and play.

Kinda hard to do that and if you have CFW you should really be able to figure it out yourself. I'll try and dumb down what iSharingan told you to do:
  • Put JKSM on your SD card.
  • Run it and export the extended data for MHGen.
  • Download the save editor and extract it wherever you want on your pc.
  • Copy your save from wherever JKSM exported it (there's a different place depending on what version of JKSM you're using)
  • Paste it in the save editor folder on your pc where you extracted it to.
  • Run the save editor, edit what you want, save, and copy the 2 files back to the folder you got the save from on the SD card.
  • Run JKSM again and import the extended data save from your SD card that you pasted from your pc.
  • Run MHX/MHGen
  • ???
  • Profit
It's really easy and simple.

EDIT: It's come to my attention that JKSM may not work with the current firmware (I haven't updated my 3DS for like 3 nintendo updates) so you'll want to replace JKSM with Checkpoint.

you can install b9S on the latest firmware (11.6.0-39) via a DSiware exploit. Acted as a sanity check for someone doing it literally yesterday. I can link you the one and only guide you should be using via DM if you're interested.

basic homebrew is still possible, too, but this discussion is best taken to DMs/another thread
