... i can only hope when people in the future use the search feature they will see this

My friend, you are placing a lot of faith in humanity.

because of fusee-gelee you can mod any version

I think it is important to note that "any version" refers to firmware on existing hardware as of the time this post is written.
Future hardware revisions will absolutely kill F-G, by either replacing the Tegra chip or removing RCM access. A safe bet is most likely both.

Uninformed people giving bad advice.

Yes, it is worth it. Any Switch below 4.1.0 will EVENTUALLY benefit from a SOFT MOD.
This door is closed on firmware newer than 4.1.0.

At the moment if you care about soft mod you should get it.

What would you not be able to do with a Switch with 4.x CFW, that you could with a Switch with a softmod on 3.0.2? I am trying to understand why should you not upgrade from 3.0.2. What would be the real benefit to waiting?

It doesn't matter at this time if you get a softmod or not, atmosphere comes out for everyone at the same time weather you use a jig or not. So in the end at this time it's really up to op if they want the 3.0.1 switch or not cause even a switch with 5.0.2 will have the same benefit whenever atmosphere is released

If you updating it to 4.1, its worth. Otherwise I dpnt think its worth it since you cant use the good stuff there is out there. To me, the 3.0.1 and 3.0.2 are the black sheep ones, no one wants to take care of.

Exactly!!! So why should anyone on a 3x firmware not upgrade to a 4x firmware if they want CFW? Is there a difference?

If you're comfortable doing a hardmod that involves shorting a pin on the Switch via a jig, paperclip, or anything conductive, you can just buy whatever Switch you want and even update to the latest firmware. If not, then its better to stay on a lower firmware, at most 4.1, as there are softmods that work up to this version. There is no difference in what you get access to but in how you can access it when it comes to Switch firmware.

It should also be noted that not all homebrew work on the latest firmware. Eventually, such as when Atmosphere is finished, this will no longer be the case, but technically not all firmware are equal.

Thank you for clearing that up. So when there is a build of Atmosphere for 3.x lets say tomorrow, does that mean that it is possible that all homebrew will work even if they do not on the higher builds like 4x, or 5x?

Yes and no. No because the homebrew will only work with specific firmwares. However, Atmosphere is gonna work off of an EmuNAND partition that we will be making off our SD card. The purpose of this EmuNAND is to let us enjoy online services on the latest firmware while retaining exploits for our SysNAND. Since the whole purpose of EmuNAND is so we can update, everyone will be using the same firmware. So, homebrew developers would instead adjust their projects to work with that since that's the firmware the community will be using.

Also, Atmosphere is going to be designed as a one-size-fits-all CFW. Meaning, there is only going to be one build that everyone will be using regardless of their base firmware. There won't be ones for 1.x, 2.x, 3x, etc.

Thanks for clearing that up! It sure sounds like a lot of great things are coming.

Also found a switch with 3.0.0 and I heard 3.0.0 should be better then 3.0.2 or 4.x and 5.x . Do you agree?

Said it from the start, staying on low firmware would be a waste of time and that by the time anything good- emulators/piracy/ fully stabilised would come out, it would be up and running on updated versions.
The fact atmosphere and whatnot is going to be released for all firmwares within the near future has pretty much proven this to be correct. Just seems even more hilarious now to think back to the idiotic comments about how smhax would be the only entry point ever, when it got discovered weeks after the release :P.
I will say this, if you care nothing for playing any actual switch games, get a 3.02 switch, you might have some incredibly minor advantage for a small period of time. Otherwise just enjoy the switch library. The only people that will tell you otherwise are the people that have been sitting on low firmware from release and are trying to convince themselves more than anyone else that it wasn't a complete and utter waste of time ;).

So you do not see any sense in waiting for CFW if someone has a Switch with 3.0.2? In other words 3.0.2 owners should upgrade? Upgrade to new FW or 4x?

The only reason you don't want to update now is if you don't mind booting your Switch into RCM then connecting a USB cable to boot into CFW. There are software exploits that can do this and work up to 4.1 but are not currently out. The one that works on softwares 3.0 and below will most likely be released when Atmosphere is launched. The ones for 3.01-4.1 might be released sometime after people have had the chance to tinker with the new Switch revision that is not susceptible to the RCM-based exploit.
