Capcom has just announced that they will be selling RE7 on Switch through cloud streaming. Is this the beginning of the end for backup? It's the best method to defeat piracy.

Bad choice if they want to sell to everyone that owns a switch. I know many people that have a switch, yet don't have a fast internet, and that's why they buy carts.

The Switch has more than 1000 games, RE7 will be the 2nd streamed game, and probably only in Japan.

Streaming won't be a normal thing within the next 5-10 years, that's for sure.

Not even that, I buy Switch games specifically for traveling in most cases.

If I am unable to play them on-the-go, the game is useless to me.

I am quite certain there are large number of players who need their games to be offline compatible.

Yeah, this streaming games thing is probably not gonna go very far UNLESS magically in the next years a magical beast from another universe does a magic spell and suddenly everyone has the fastest wifi ever. Not gonna happen.

And if we buy a portable console, that's because we want to play everywhere, not only at home + we need a strong permanent internet. And that's only capcom case for now, so I'm 100% sure it's not a method against piracy

Client based games will defeat one of the selling point of the switch; its portability. I doubt this will be a thing. The 3ds also has a game like this, Dragon Quest X (also only for Japan) and that's about it.

There are users who live in remote rural areas of the world who have no internet or poor connections. Plus, others who have zero interest in online and use systems purely offline, so no it's not a method against piracy imo.

Cloud Streaming does not work for Worldwide Releases.

Many Countrys still have 3 Mbit Internet Speed in large Areas with no 4G or 3G Coverage. So I would not fear that anyone else is jumping on that Streaming train.

This will be for Japan only (as has been announced), where high speed wifi is commonplace pretty much everywhere... theoretically, leaving out the usual compression artefacts etc, this could allow for a perfect Monster Hunter World on Switch, perhaps moving on to even better quality visuals later, so it kind of makes sense .....only in Japan though, the rest of the world needs to catch up with wifi though, which will take years.

I see everybody bitching at Capcom for this but people seem to forget that Nintendo is allowing this. They could have easily said i don't want this on my platform so Nintendo is as much to blame for something like this then Capcom is if you want to start the blaming game.
me, on the other hand is not blaming anyone just to get that out of the way

Nintendo and many game companies always use Japan to test the water first before applying to the rest of the world. I have no doubt that game streaming will be the format of the future when internet speed is getting faster. No one can owned the games anymore, it's all rented out just like music on Spotify or videos on Netflix, etc.

The fact that Capcom do this when piracy is about to begin on Switch seems intentional to me. It's like they are testing to see the reaction.

The switch is meant to be used in and outdoors. In my case, I use my switch to play games only when i m outside.
I see no reason to buy it since it obviously wont run as smooth as if I was using a wifi connection. The switch is meant to be used outdoors mainly. To me, this could thing
was a really immature decision

Even in the future, it's gonna be impossible to have reliable game streaming everywhere in the world. And while you, im america, may live somewhere where extremely fast internet is a thing everywhere, in other countries it is not. Almost every single one of my friends owns cartdridges because they have slow internet (1 megabyte per second, more or less), with me being an exception where i live since i have 5 megabyte per seconds and have them downloaded. Now, if you live in a big city it may seem acceptable. (in Milan internet can be pretty fast for example). but if you don't live in a big city, then a thing such as streaming games is gonna be impossible. Even in the future, when internet will be faster. You know what else will have bigger numbers? Games size. A game that is 10 GB now, where i have 5 megabytes per second now, might be 20 gb when i finally get 10 megabyte per second.

Not to mention latency. Even if you have a fast internet connection, a tiny bit of latency is unacceptable in Fighting or fps games.
To be fair, i tried out psnow for 7 days on my pc and everybody was talking about latency and i did not notice that much latency actually. So if ur connection is decent enough and you have most ports open that need to be open i don't see that being a major issue. If ur playing competitive then i do see that being a bit of a problem but when i was playing Killzone through psnow everything seemed to be fluent and i did not got to experience the latency everybody is talking about. Still is a bad service tho 15 euro a month while it should be around the 10 mark
