Would There be any way to make this magic happen? The ONLY Gripe i Have had with the switch is that portable mode can sometimes have HORRID Graphics, I am no graphics whore though, but It is really distracting to go from a somewhat decent looking game to mush, (xenoblade 2 and doom are prime examples).

I don't care that the switch has a 720p screen,

So, is it possible to do this, if so how difficult would it be modders?

also to avoid frying the battery, would it be possible to have to switch go back to portable mode once the usb-c plug is taken out?

This is the second thread about this exact topic today.

TL;DR: Docked makes no sense since you can't view 900p-1080p on the 720p screen, overclocking is a much better solution.

But the thing is, Does overclocking enable the higher quality textures, effects and so on like what docked mode does.

Textures do not change as they are 100% RAM bound.

Effects are usually the same, I don't know any exceptions.

Only thing is usually resolution.

we need to wait for CFW first then eventually someone might add the OC feature... And anyway you can just simply buy a 20A power bank with Power Delivery high output at 15V and it will not use Switch battery but rather use the power bank's battery instead, so even with OC you would still have quite some gaming hours with a 20A power bank...

Well most games use dynamic resolution scaling so we can actually say textures improve because even though its the same textures, they drop so much in some parts that its like the textures get cut in half even though its always the same exact textures most likely...

Same way on PC when we use like 2x supersampling, it makes the textures to look way better even though its always the same ULTRA textures as before.

And since docked or portable CPU has the same very low clocks, we might actually be able to improve demanding games with a bit of CPU OC, however it might also break some games and maybe make them run with more speed than normal, no idea, I just know Nintendo has used the same clocks for best compatibility and same physic capabilities portable or docked and then they just mess up with the GPU clocks for improving or downgrade visual quality

Are you sure overcolcking will fix THAT?

Oh.

Gotta correct myself: Games with texture streaming are the exception.

And yes, OCing might actually fix that, but we don't know how the engine does that.

Which circles back to my question, would docked performance in portable mode (plugged into a wall or high powered batterybank) be possible? (through homebrew of course)

there is so much confusion about this, I have yet to see a game with better textures in docked mode... only higher render resolution and maybe some other effects are a few notches higher. Its the same deal with so called "remasters", in most cases "remasters" are basically the same as running a game in an emulator witha higher render resolution.

you have now seen a game with higher res textures in docked

At least docked clocks must be possible since the console originally already does it... now trying to achieve the official Tegra X1 clocks I don't think it will be possible judging by the Nvidia Shield TV's motherboard which has quite a huge improvement in the VRMs, they use the same VRMS from some PC GPU's with high octane in them :).

I think Switch won't be able to supply the needed voltage stable and might also break some components ;).

I really want to make cooling mods and wish I could use official Tegra X1 clocks my self.

so, maybe one day..... I can play doom without feeling like my switch has Vaseline smeared over the screen:) If the clocks don't fuck up the system <3

Doom and Wolfenstein is screwed on performance, but its more a CPU problem sadly, docked or undocked it goes nuts. Specially using the hardest difficulty on doom as it needs more CPU power and sadly docked or portable switch has the same very low CPU clocks which are half of the clocks of the actual Tegra X1.

Docked gpu clocks put it in high quality, but still has low FPS, we also need CPU OC.

On most consoles eventually they get a way to do it, we can just simply wait...

ps: Downclocking would also be cool for very low performance requirement games which we might be able to even cut half the clocks and might still be able to play them for more hours.

sometimes it pains me to think how much extra juice we would've gotten out of the switch if nintendo just fitted it with a more capable battery, (even though it would've probably raised the price of the switch to 350 dollars at launch, and maybe could've fucked up the switch's success "insert ascii shrug emoji")

Cooling is problematic too, at least to achieve the official tegra X1 clocks. I think that even Nvidia Shield TV should actually thermal throttle on demanding games (but I never searched that, so no idea)...
