He even wanted it to have a squirrel tail, but he wanted it to be of electric type, so he made a lighting tail

Pikas are part of the order of Lagomorpha, along with rabbits and hares.

I always assumed pikachus were, like their real world counterparts, like big rodents, but actually closer to bunnys. :\
