GBAtemp Experience Points

Before today, you were able to Like a post on our forum to show appreciation for a helpful post by another forum member, but ultimately the Likes gained by members didn't account for anything.

Now, with the GBAtemp Experience Points system we are introducing a levelling system that is powered by your content.

With the XP system we are pushing to encourage a more positive forum experience by providing more incentive to those who contribute to the GBAtemp community!

Gaining XP

XP is gained whenever you post helpful and constructive content - such as by posting a helpful reply; creating a popular thread; submitting a review or tutorial; getting a User Submitted News article promoted to the front page among many other ways...

To see a full and maintained list of ways to gain (and lose) XP please follow see the XP help page.

Every time your content gets recognised your current XP count will increase by a certain pre-determined value depending on the content.

Level Up!

When your XP count reaches a certain threshold you will be promoted to the Next Level. Just how many levels are there? That's for you to find out!

You can keep an eye on your current XP and level in your Account Menu or thread-side postbit, as shown in the image below.

When you level up you will receive a forum notification alerting you!

What treats are there in store for high ranking members? Besides bragging rights, the GBAtemp staff are working on perks so stay tuned for more information...

Leaderboards

<img src="http://gbatemp.net/images/xp_leaderboards.png" width="550px"/>

If you wish to compare your current standing with other GBAtemp members you can do so by following the link to the XP leaderboard below.

On this page you can see detailed statistics on other members such as their current XP and level and when they will level up next.

Is this a fresh start?

No. We value all our members previous efforts in making GBAtemp a successful and bustling resource of information and have taken previous contributions into account. We have assigned all members a current level based on previous contributions and activity. To see a detailed explanation of how this was calculated, please see the XP help page.

__________________________

We hope you enjoy using the GBAtemp Experience Points system and hope you find it a fun way to take part at GBAtemp.net

Please note, we are still fine tuning the system so don't be surprised if you see any sudden changes to your XP count - we are also working on many other ways to gain XP and these will be rolled out as they become available.

For a complete rundown on the new system please see the XP help page linked below.

As always with the launch of a new feature, please do let us know if you encounter any bugs or issues with the XP system in the thread below.

Looking through this, I can't help but feel too much focus was given on GBAtemp Ask, when most of the activity happens in threads. Sure, it's way harder to keep track of proper replies in threads, but at least 2/3rds of people looking for an answer end up making a thread (ESPECIALLY in the 3DS section) so giving so much higher priority to Ask! is a bit too much...

EDIT: Also, personal quirk if you will call it, but I really don't like how the level for each member replaced the likes meter they had, I prefer to be able to see the likes someone has rather than something that can just be written in a corner with tiny characters as it's just 1 or 2 numbers...

Between ear pain, 3 hour sleep, puking, my throat being sore again because of the puking, I can't really say this particular bit of news makes my shitty Monday any better. Not really something to care about either.

Can't see anything, even after deactivating all extensions that could make it disappear.

Hurray, the curtain has finally been lifted! I think this is a really neat idea, and hopefully it'll encourage people to contribute a bit more original and creative content. Also, I like how you decided to replace the likes counter with the xp counter underneath a person's profile in a forum post (glad to see you didn't flat out get rid of the like meter either).

I and Hayato warned him not to, but he won't listen
  • A @ ATEMVEGETA:
    @BigOnYa,
I don't listen? What didn't I listen at? I just want to know all the possible risks on that part
  • A @ ATEMVEGETA:
Hayato even said it's dangerous to backup the save files to CFW
  • A @ ATEMVEGETA:
how is this dangerous? A ton of people did this it's the most common thing to do with CFW
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
    Then do it

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:

@BigOnYa, Man, first of all thanks for your willing to help, much appreciated. But, it's not that I "don't want to listen", rather than I need soemone to EXPLAIN to me how and why all these are risky.

Putting your dick in certain areas is always a risk

  • A @ ATEMVEGETA:
For example, HOW is is risky to get banned if you extract the save files to the CFW?
  • A @ ATEMVEGETA:
isn't this proccess be done while you're offline?
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
We are not Nintendo, so we don't know exactly how/why/when they ban, but better to stay on the safe side and not do shady stuff, if you don't want to be banned. Hayato is one of the most knowledgeable ones here on the subject and I believe what he says.
    +1
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
    300 bucks hmmm lol
  • A @ ATEMVEGETA:
@BigOnYa, Yes ofc we don't know how Nintendo bans work, but if there are situations where a lot of people have tried safely then we can at least assume that this path is pretty much safe. To say don't try anything homebrew relative just to be safe forever is the easiest thing to say to someone. What I am trying to figure out here is with which cases and what actions got most of the people their bans for.
  • A @ ATEMVEGETA:
Most things I can find resulting to a ban is save-editing reasons, like Pokehex, etc, and going online afterwards.
