Lengthy read.

Ive google fu'd my butt of and have a few solutions but want some input if anyone elses may have had similar issue.

My friends ps4 is giving her some issues, at the moment i dont physically have it to take a look and shes not able to do much with it for various reasons.

Anyway, it lost power while in sleep, and turned on and worked fine till last night.

After finishing a netflix show, and attempting to put in sleep mode, it freezes the screen, wihile playing nextflix audio. And stayed like that. She left it on hoping it would power off from settings but it stayed on.

She then turned it off and it went into system hdd checing and safe mode. She turned it off again becasue it was asking to update. And she doenst have access to a pc till she gets it to me.

And now it wont show anything on the screen. But the system light stays on.

I want to test her hdd in mine and dont know if itll just work since its already formatted and such or if it has to match hardware etc. If it doesnt turn out to be bad pins in the port.

Tldr
Multiple possible issues, accidental power removal in sleep, system light turns on but no tv signal, did show safe mode and asked to install update file once before sognal loss.

Turn off HDCP on the TV and Console, Also use a new HDMI cable.

First your HDD will be SATA not IDE and bent pins are a non issue so get your mind out of that dumpster.

Secondly, Chkdsk/ FSCK is pointless when the PS4 runs a FSCK on next reboot after a hard power off. You dont need a PC for that. Leave the drive alone.

If you did try to test the disk with windows, It wont recognize the partition and will ask to format. Linux will see the partitions but they are encrypted so still pointless.

Look up how to boot into the recovery menu and update/ check disk.

Im willing to bet its a HDMI cable issue or like my issue. HDCP devices fighting for control of the TV.

Cant change any settings in the ps4 if i tried.

Was going to put its hard drive in my ps4 to see if it would still boot IF my ps4 could use another drive already set for another console to see if the drive works.

Only reason i mentioned my pc was because of the need for it to download the firmware if i could get a tv signal back

The pins im talking about are the hdmi port not the hdd. Mb for not beimg quite clear enough.

Update. So it came on and had this

So basically the hdd is fried it seems. Wonder if there is a way to recover any data from the drive so her saves arent lost.

You can use the recovery update.pup file to see if the system and the HDD work. If they are on some specific firmware like 4.05 or 4.55, find the specific recovery file if it doesn't boot without you doing anything.

Thanks for the info i do know its on latest firmware. I'll know more of what i can do once she comes to visit tonight, im hoping i can get into recovery options and just update and save it. If the drive is toast im gonna give her my 60gb thatll fit in it and hope for the best. Thats the only thing i know.

If it is on the latest firmware then just use an ethernet cable and connect to the PS4, and download the recovery file that way, if the drive is dead then the recovery wont be finished, just give it a try.

And if I remember correctly PS4 system os partition require around 150GB, because Im using a 6TB and its real size is 5587GB and after system partition I got around 5.4TB left. So I know the HDD has to be atleast around 250 GB or so, the default one come in 500GB or Higher.

So it asked fir the update file, i had it prepared and it couldn't find it. Now its in a state where the blue light just pulses. I downloaded the normal update. And once it comes back if ever I'll try the other one it had on the page. Any other ideas to try?

You can't use the regular update file that around ~300mb you need the ~800mb recovery update file

Yea it wouldnt accept either file. But i found an odd work around myself.
It wouldnt go past any screens for a while and kept looping back to asking for a usb with the update, even after swapping to the larger recovery pup.

It wouldnt do anything, so i left the hdd in, turned the power one then pulled the hdd out just slighty to disconnect it, and the light finally turned white. I reinserted the drive immediately and it brought up the actual safe mode menu instead of going straight to asking for usb. So i just initilized the drive and everythings working. Now its just her trying to log in. Which is not going well cus forgotten passwords, and resets are taking lol. Thanks for all the helpful suggestions.

Yea i followed all the instructions the site had, and i had dine that before for an easier ps4 fix for my brother

Probably the HDD is dead then, if it is seated properly in the ps4. If u have external drive caddy u can try to see if windows detect this faulty drive.

On the HDD part you can try EaseUS if you got an external hard drive caddy
