Hello everyone,
I am new to these forums, well posting anyways, i have been reading them ever since i first got my "New" Nintendo 2DS XL a few months ago.

My question is this, I have been reading ALOT about installing Custom Firmware in order to use HomeBrew or install Badges and other positive things. Yes, everything I have been reading about the system after the CFW is installed is ALL positive stuff, SO, is there any downsides to installing CFW? Is there anything I can NO longer do with my 2DS XL after I install said CFW? If i do install CFW and i change my mind about it, is there a way to undo the install and go back to the way it was prior to the installation of said CFW? Does the act of installing CFW VOID the WARRANTY?

Also I am going to use this guide to learn and actually do the installation of the CFW
3DS Hacks Guide
i am NOT allowed to post links yet.. dumb...

Another thing is this was highly recommended that I get before going into the CFW
(it is called Ace3DS X 32GB Flash Cart)

Ok so Other than that stuff anything else I shoud look into/Learn about?
Also, did I get anything wrong in my post?

Thanks alot guys!

You should install CFW. It's very safe nowadays and you can do a lot with it.
If you're worried about battery life, no worries. Didn't even notice a difference.

As always, hacking a console voids its warranty.

3ds.guide might be the link you were referring to?

there are no downsides to getting CFW

if you are on the latest firmware, you have 2 real options, one is buying a Flash Card to be able to do it (the flash card can be used to play NDS games later on, but not have 3DS games on the flash card, they get installed to the system)
the other option is Seedminer that will cost you a $2 eshop game, and if you want I can help you do it and have it installed in about 2 hours total.

Nope, 3ds.hacks.guide is the new link. If you're wondering why, Plailect explained it... somewhere.

Pros:
- complete control over your system. (You can back up your system's files to anything, and even change your friend code bits too.)
- breaking region locking (You can import games from other regions OR own and use a Japanese/European system in the USA/Canada)
- ability to import save games between different consoles
- ability to make custom virtual console injects (want to play Turtles in Time for the SNES? It's available!)

Cons:
- Internet ban (CFW devs don't know what causes Nintendo to flag accounts, but now most people access homebrew menu through the Download play icon and Rosalina (in Luma3DS))
- slight maintenance - you have to make 3DS system backups and backups of your sd card once in a while

Yes, you can undo the install and make your system vanilla again. Good for it you need to send it back to Nintendo under warranty.

CFW just modifies code on the system, so in theory, it shouldn't be noticed. Basically interrupts your system while booting to tell them to use the code on the card. It should void the warranty, but then again, if it is completely removed, it should be impossible to tell from stock.

Pros: Pretty much full control of your system, cheating, deeper customization (themes)
Cons: Literally none. The 3DS hacking scene is incredibly good, it doesn't alter perfomance of your 3DS in any way and the installation is super simple. There's people that are completely new to the scene and can hack their systems in ~20 mins or so.

Just get CFW, really. It's extremely worth it.

EDIT: Seeing the topic above, there is indeed the entire banning factor, but Rosalina menu has ways to hide the fact you're using CFW and make yourself safer. Cheating CAN lead to bans, but won't necessarily do so. I use cheats on Pokémon but i don't mess with competitive or hacking pokémons, my 3DS has been fine ever since i did the installation.
Still, if there's a ban wave, it's usually noticied here on GBATemp, with ways of securing yourself on how not to get banned.

Thank You to evrey one who responded!
However, Now i have a follow up question regarding getting Banned. Also what will the ban do to my system say i was caught.

So if I make it to where my 2DS XL Console is NEVER Online, does that make it easier NOT to get caught?
If I was banned, what does that mean? Like will I no longer have access to the Nintendo eShop? Are the Bans given out on a per game basis? Do they Ban Nintendo Network IDs? Can they physically Ban your console specifically? I am not entirely sure that I know I am asking the right question because I have NEVER been banned from anything ever in my life.

Well i DID get Banned from my high school but thats the one exception. I got banned, Expelled, from High school because i refused to stop smoking pot. I would tell them I stopped, but then they would test me and I would fail every time... I passed once by taping a large Visine bottle full of clean piss to the inside of my boxer shorts. When it was time for the test i would unscreew the cap and slowly squirt it in the cup, hell, it even sounded like I was actually peeing. HAHA. Thats a Whole other subject tho i got lost for a second. HAHAH..

getting banned with now, Nintendo just blocks all online services except for eShop, but local multiplayer still works

(it is called Ace3DS X 32GB Flash Cart)
Found one for sale on a website, but they want $50 for it.
Sounds super expensive, especially when I don't know what it is for.
Also don't know if it is a crucial tool absolutely NEEDed for the CFW installation...
I do believe that it IS a crucial tool Needed for Poke genning, right?

So what is that exactly?
Do i actually NEED it to install CFW?
If NOT, then what is that "Flash Cart" used for?
Do I NEED one to do the actual installation of the CFW?

Nintendo doesn't like blocking the eShop - that means one more person definitely won't buy from it. Being banned means you can't use Nintendo's online services, like Mario Kart, Pokémon multiplayer etc, and they're generally per-console. Local multiplayer is unaffected.

you can install CFW today by using a $2 DSiWare game, and I could help you, it would take like 2-3 hours

Ok so a flash cart is basically an inexpensive DSi Game Cartridge that is strictly used for installing CFW. Right, or No?
If that is correct, that is crazy that the pokedit website is selling this "Ace3DS X 32GB Flash Card" for $50 when in reality it is just a cheap DSi game Cart....

Then again, I should NOT be surprised at all after finding out people list Free stuff for real money on eBay.

Crap, found out my Micro SDHC has to be MBR and NOT GPT. I know the one it comes with is MBR but its only 4GB I bought a SanDisk 32GB SDHC

just like this one, this is the one that most people recommend due to being able to change to ntrboot mode with a switch
and having a high compatibility for games

Well, a 2 dollar eshop purchase seems cheeper than buying a flashcart

the only con i could think of when installing CFW especially when it comes to game "backups" is that you have so much games at your disposal that you get overwhelmed and end up not finishing a single game and sometimes you'd be tempted to cheat then feel bad later for not really giving any effort to overcome any challenge the game presents to you..but that's just me. I say, install CFW if you can/want. It's not really a "must".

Crap, just found out that i NEED a nother 3DS system to install the CFW. Is there NO other way? I only own 1 2DS XL Console and the only person I know who also has a 2DS is NOT running CFW.

Plus his is the OLD 2DS and mine is the "New" XL version totally different hardware..

Ok still reading, seems the only other option for me is via ntrboot...

Which requires a "Flash Cart" so Back to the Ace3DS X 32GB Flash Card. Or does anyone know a cheaper or better one to get?

as I said above, I can help you mod your 3ds with the use of a $2 DSiWare game using seedminer, it's not on the guides yet, because it's a harder way that only needs one system
