I was very pleased to find that nintendont makes a virtual memory card, and it seems to work well. I have a physical memory card, and would like to transfer its contents to the virtual one. Is this possible? I would love to keep a backup somehow.

Sure thing.

You need the homebrew called GCMM to make a dump of your memory card.
This image can then be used with nintendont directly.
If you have files to transfer to the image currently in use, you may want to use Dolphin's memory card management tool on pc.

I was able to get the system to tell me that it made a copy of my card on SD and External HDD.
Can I just drag/drop and/or rename or would this need to be processed further?

Thanks for all the advice. Everyone is so helpful here.

Yep, you now have a .raw file saved, correct?
At this point you have a backup of your memory card.

You can use it with nintendont, use it in anything compatible or store it somewhere in case you lose your save files.

Where in the file structure would it save this?

Hi, sorry to get into this thread. This is interesting for me too.

Is there any other program to transfer specific gamesaves between virtual and physical memory saves, besides Dolphin?

I was searching up a bit, but I couldn't find anything but Dolphin sadly :(
If you need to do some manipulation, I can provide a helping hand using Dolphin, if you want :)

I found this:
0251b_2018_03Mar_18_20-40-49.raw

I am certain this is it, and found it in a new file /root/Mcbackup

I also found /root/saves file, and am fairly certain that this is where nintendont creates its virtual save file. it looks like it saves each title under its 4 letter game ID code.

Copying each individual game file from GMCC gives me a GCI file.

I am new at the wonders of Nintendo modding. Desire to know more intensifies. We still have the kid(s) 2ds XL system, as well as a Wii-u. I have a heavily modded Xbox nearly a decade ago, but it was no where near as foreign as this is.

Ahhh yes, that is correct. So you got a whole memory card image as a .raw file (0251b_2018_03Mar_18_20-40-49.raw).
the saves folder contains save data for each games, based on your description, "individual" memory card option was used, which is a different .raw file for each game.
The .gci files you have got are pretty useful. You may want to backup them, as well as the .raw file you dumped.

So since you are using individual .raw files for each games with memory card emulation, and I assume that you want to have every saves in a single file, I guess I could recommend to use Dolphin to export all the emulated memory card files to the recently aquired .raw file.
Once you have your "complete" memory card image, you should be able to use it with nintendont by placing it in the /saves folder, making sure to rename it to ninmem.raw, and in the nintendont settings, to have the memory card emulation set to "multi".

I hope this helps you :)
