Hacking CFW Question from a (Advanced) Noob

Whats up guys?

Im a noob to this forum and to 3ds in general, but not to software modding devices/homebrewing & hacking. I didn't want to disrespect everyone here with a dumb noob question so I did a bunch of research and im at the point where im a little confused. looking for some clarity:

So I bought a (used) New! 3DS (not the XL one) with homebrewing in mind. The 3DS had 11.2 when I purchased it, so i know I was good.

I followed the 3ds.hacks guide to the t, and everything seemed to be working fine. After updating to 11.6, I see the soundhax loophole doesn't work and FBI had disappeared (after a restart, not right away.) Even though I installed CFW I think I messed up by updating cause I see that guide was made prior to 11.5

Loaded my SD card on my mac and saw that the boot.firm, otherapp.bin, .m4a, and the /cias folder were missing from the ROOT folder. I replaced all items, except cia folder and updated the otherapp file to new software version before replacing. I know I still have custom firmware because when I hold select at startup, it boots Luma 3DS.

FYI I installed Luma 3DS 9.0, boot9s and whatever else is in that guide.

After all this I got stuck, so here are my questions:

1. Even though I have CFW, can I not launch homebrew because of all of the exploits being patched in 11.5 and 6?
2. Are buying the physical copies of those random games with the level exploits the only workaround I have left?
3. Is there any hope for me? (lol)

Thanks for your time. Hopefully, I can get some help and get more active in here. I missed the like 5 or 6 years of gaming and just want to have some fun with 3ds.

1. If you have CFW, you can run any homebrew and any game.

You have to reinstall FBI via homebrew launcher. Simply said, follow this and it should be good.

Btw if you want to launch the hbl, you load it up via Rosalina injection now. Enter any 3ds game, hold L+DOWN+SELECT, select miscellaneous, inject hb .app, back out, exit the 3ds game, and reenter it. That game will be the new hbl untill you shut off the 3ds.

ok, I got to the part where i have to launch FBI from Rosalina and its not working. Maybe my root folder is missing something or i messed something up. Only thing I can think of is i did otherapp for 11.6 am i supposed to use otherapp for 11.2, like i did originally, since that what i jailbroke on? Ill provide a screenshot of my root folder.

You don't need athorapp.bin so clean/format your SD and redownload everything and put it on your SD.
Also, can you get to Rosalina menu? And you are not launching FBI from Rosalina, but homebrew launcher which is used to install FBI.

No, I can't get to Rosalina menu anymore. unless im doing it wrong - L+D+Select right?

so before I reformat my card, let me clarify:

The CFW exists on the device not the SD right?

And im only reinstalling everything from the Finalizing Setup page right? I don't have to do any of the other stuff?

1. Yes, that is the right combination
2. Yes, it should. Try booting without SD while holding select.
3. Redownload latest Luma and follow finalizing setup.

Honestly, if you followed the guide, letter for letter, you wouldn't have any issues. The guide is written and updated for the current firmware and current entrypoints (sans seedminer).

redid the process. im almost done and everything seems to be working right now, but i have a couple of quick notes:

- smh i held "left" instead of "L" for Rosalina, so i reinstalled lma for no reason.
- when i tried to launch FBI it wasnt working, i got some crazy stack dmp error message that made me shut down. I fixed it by going back and installing (safehax, udsploit and boot.3dsx - idk which one did the trick)
- "Install and delete all cias" wasnt working (got an error message every time - anyone know why?), so i had to do them one by one (i think this also happened the first time)
- i def didn't properly install dsp1 the first time. the launch worked perfectly this time.

ill update it any thing else happens. I actually understand what im doing this time lol

Lol, noobs is right. When you tried launching FBI you had to fix it by installing safehax? WTF? No no no no no. How were you attempting to run FBI?
DSP1 doesn't "install" you just run it.
Install and delete all cias wasn't working? What was your exact error message?

well everything is working fine now (i think.)

i think I fixed FBI by dropping boot.3dsx into the root. i just threw safehax in there too cause I didnt know what it did and i figured it could be the problem *shrugs*

the first time i "ran" dsp1 it did nothing. after i wiped everything and made my second attempt, it installed fbi and a few other apps on my home screen (didnt do this the first time)

yup install and delete CIAs wasnt working my error code was "0xc8E08001"
