I wants go back to ofw someday and I'm wondering will the console be banned or will my main account be banned once I go back and hop online? I play game backups and use homebrews on a separate account while my main account doesn't run any of that all. Any tips and recommendations are appreciated

look at this thread https://gbatemp.net/threads/sonys-ban-behaviour.492182/page-3#post-7837783

people get banned for using accounts with loads of games attached to it if using CFW, Sony wouldn't care and they will ban...

use an account which is not important with your CFW..

they is also a chance if you get banned the console might get banned too.

so its all up to you.

I do use a separate account for all my homebrew and loading game backups. If I where to delete the account before going back to ofw would that help? I know deleting the account will get rid of all save data and trophy's associated with it

its all ifs and but.

im mean someday when you want to go back to OFW. how do we now that PSN will work with PS3 anymore.

PS3 is an old console now. very unique in that we just dont now what Sony is going to do or will do.

other console had support for like 5 years, PS3 is past 10 years.

what do you want to do? play backups? or go online?

what you want to do is the opposite what most people want to do. they want online now i.e. OFW. and backups later i.e. CFW.

With the current trend of greed in the industry I am surprised that 360's and PS3's can even still connect to any sort of online service...

I mean from a pure asshole greed stand point it would force more of your customers to buy your latest machine if the old couldn't even play online.

It's actually my brothers PS3 and he wants to go back to ofw in a couple months from what he told me. Now I've heard mixed opinions on what to do when going back to ofw. Some say to just install ofw over cfw others say to format the drive which I can't afford to do unfortunately. All in all I'm concerned about the main account getting banned since the console did have CFW on it.

That's very true but then again there's tons of ps3 and 360 games that don't have ports to PS4 or xbone and still have online features like Battlefield 3 or Tekken Tag Tournament 2 for example

I installed OFW over CFW, your homebrew and downloaded games will remain on the menu, you can't open them but you need to format the drive just to be sure.
After a week of playing online after installing OFW over CFW, still no ban.
Everything's legit anyways.

You just installed ofw over cfw? You didn't format or anything?

More customers on newest machine doesn't always mean more money.

I'm certain that greed is calculated into it. Notwithstanding, let's look from MS point of view; they don't want to turn customers to the other brand by turning off online earlier than competitors. Plus people are still paying for live on the 360... Microsoft could force people to a new console; but they are chancing that those people they are turning xbox 360 live off for would opt for PS4 when given an ultimatum option. Money wise it might make more sense to keep taking money for live on the 360 until it is no longer making more money than it is costing them or enough people have upgraded to their newer console. Also through emulation they are selling 360 games on the xbox one. They might have to keep those servers up anyways for those games, so it might make sense to leave live up for the Microsoft side. Sony's arguments may be slimmer; as they don't charge for online on the ps3. Still they don't want to look bad in front of Microsoft.

I formatted the drive afterwards.
So it's recommend to format your drive? I read that Nor PS3s need to have ofw installed twice since the cfw is stored partly on the Nor and HDD while NAND PS3s hold it all on the NAND

There's bits of the CFW in the HDD, that's why you should install OFW then wipe the drive clean.

Crap can't really afford to do a format

Because of save files? Back up those.
And you can redownload your bought games as well, if you have PS Plus is heaven on Earth since you don't have to backup anything.

Installing PS3 games from PSN is very painful and super slow, a 35GB game can take up to 4-5 hours just installing, i have 1tb HDD and %70 is filled with legit games.

I remember when i made a backup from olold stock 320GB drive to external drive, it looks me more than one day to complete the backup, and i got an error and many games didn't get backed up, so i said screw it, i will download the rest again.

I just leave mine over night, hey its the price to pay to keep everything legit right?
