Hello, i was just wondering if anyone knows a good Pro Controller alternative Preferably cheaper
just trying to find something like the pro controller that works with the switch i just feel like nintendo is leaching money out of its users with an overpriced controller but i've never used a pro controller so i don't really know
know any good ones?
(i have heard before that there are controllers that work for multiple consoles like a usb xbox controller working with the switch but i tried that with my wired xbox one controller and it didn't work)

There are many cheap options for pro controllers, but none of them come close in terms of quality to the original.
However, the 8bitdo SN30 Pro/SF30 Pro looks pretty good. It's not specifically a Switch controller but works with a wide variety of devices. Still, it has motion controls so it should be compatible with every Switch game. The only things it doesn't have are NFC and HD rumble. I believe it has regular rumble though.
I own a NES30 Pro and I'm happy with it. Build quality seems good, buttons and D-Pad feel nice and responsive. SN30/SF30 is just an improved version of that with a SNES design and more features so it should be even better.
It does cost more than the NES30 Pro though, but it has more features so that's to be expected. Still cheaper than a pro controller.

Well, you can always switch (no pun intended) to the JoyCons when you want to use NFC, and the 8bitdo does have motion controls like I said. None of the other alternatives do to my knowledge though.

The switch pro controller is absolutely worth the money it's super high quality and the battery lasts forever charges fast when it dies too. Not like the Xbox controller where you have to use your own batteries or the PS4 controller that only lasts a few hours and the charging port wears out and it breaks if you even drop it a little.

I use a more expensive option, but that not the place for this i guess. Though $70 is above common price tag, is not like is over $100 like the xbox elite controller. :P

Call it leaching or overpriced but then again what exactly goes into making that controller?
  • NFC for amiibo
  • Motion controls (Gyro sensing)
  • HD Rumble
  • Bluetooth 4.1
  • USB C connection port (including USB C/USB B cable
May not sound like a lot or impressive but compared to previous controllers.

wait it uses bluetooth like the joycons?
doesn't that mean i could potentially use it for my pc as well? through bluetooth?
if that's the case then i am 100% not complaining at the price cause ill get a ton of use outta it

Yes. I use my Wii U Pro controller on my RPi all the time. The Switch's Pro controller would be the same.

Yes it uses bluetooth like the joy cons, and the wii u and wii pro controllers and wiimotes. Nintendo has always been using bluetooth except for the wii u gamepad that uses wifi direct. That is why the battery last so damn long (should be 40+ hours on full charge) :P

I used my pro controller on my pc but I don't need bluetooth to do it, again I use a method you not looking for.

NFC reader/writer: dirt cheap
A gyroscope: dirt cheap
HD Rumble (aka multiple rumble motors): dirt cheap
Bluetooth: dirt cheap
USB C (and 1 cable): dirt cheap.

Add it all up and you somehow get $70? Hell, it's more expensive than the standard DualShock4 and Xbox One controller!

The only feature the Pro controller has over a DS4 or XBone is the NFC and USB C (the standard in the future) versus Micro USB, which is still the industry standard. The pricing is definitely outrageous and it is definitely where Nintendo is making their money this time around.

Sony has also always used Bluetooth. Microsoft has used proprietary RF, but also uses Bluetooth now.

My comment wasn't to debate weather it was a outrageous price, but to inform of the contents of the controller. Perhaps the materials used for the shell and buttons are of value. Whatever the reason for the $70 price, it's high but then again is not the most expensive. Xbox one elite is. :P

the 360 uses rf as well. in fact, the rf board is where the rol is. I don't know if it's proprietary or not, but it wouldn't surprise me if it is.

I've heard that there are problems with the dpad of the switch pro controller. once I own a switch, I'll decide if I want to keep the pro controller. I've also heard that there are issues getting the controller to pair with the pc. maybe try a mayflash adapter and use the wii u pro controller instead? I don't know how much they are for a switch controller, but for a wii u one - they're like $18.

Ohh so are there other Pro controllers? one for the switch and one for the wii u?
i never knew there was one for the Wii u cause i know pretty much nothing about it
(just googled it and the wii U controller.... i personally think looks horrific compared to the switch controller)

the wii pro controller is comfortable, has great battery life, and the dpad is solid. if the switch pro controller sucks, I'd suggest that. :)
