so recently i’ve tried getting cfw on my 11.6.0-39 2dsXL and so far everything is great. i have luma menu and godmode and all that jazz. but i can’t do a software update to complete the cfw steps. i have everything that 3dsguidehas told me to do like dns and stuff and all i get after trying to sw update is “no new updates” and it sends me back to the home menu after clicking ok. Like i said everything is like it should and i’ve gotten cfw twice before. Not sure what’s going on

If you absolutely know for sure you did not mess up in any of the prior steps, you have to resort to DSiWare transfer to get custom firmware.
Unless you messed up somewhere before the magnet step, just know that there are cases where people can't boot into SafeB9SInstaller. NTRboot has a rare chance of not working for some systems. No one knows why.

Yes, you can't update because there isn't any new update. Just skip that step.There is no updates because 11.6.0-39 is the lastest update for the 3DS.

Not trying to be rude, but I can't believe people actually answered this question. I honestly don't know if this guy is trolling or is a noob (used playfully) who seriously needs some help but either way I find this whole situation funny as hell.
His post was originally written as "y" before going back to edit with more description. That's a poor way to go about asking for help, but it's not out of the norm for a new user who does not know or have prior forum etiquette. Someone who is willing to help should look past this "misstep" if we are to assume this is his first time offense of bad communication.
Going off his title containing "Section II", persons with prior experience installing custom firmware would be stumped if they saw the magnet failing to trigger booting SafeB9SInstaller. There is nothing funny about being told you did something wrong when you know for sure everything in the procedure was done correctly up to that step. Convention dictates that NTRboot supposedly "works for all 2DS/3DS systems", but those two users I pointed out demonstrated this isn't the case. One of the two has done NTRboot for multiple systems; the other user has video proof the hack works on his O2DS but failed on his friend's O2DS.
Just in case the OP was having this exact bizarre scenario, it's best to give him the heads up so he knows the problem (could be) not him sucking at following the 3ds.guide instructions.
But he is talking about updates and DNS.
I doubt he is talking about the NTRBoot part of the Guide.

Again, when he first made that post, he did not mention about updates and DNS until much later after I already posted about the Section II magnet issue. My reply would look unrelated by then.

Still don't get why OP would have problems with NTRBoot if he already has CFW (Luma and GodMode).

Well, right now that part is so what. That information has been made irrelevant after more details of OP's problem came to light.
I was replying to @Leafgreen26 when he found this funny that people going out their way to help OP who may not have presented his problem as upfront as he should have.

Hey @TurdPooCharger and @E1ite007 , I wasn't trying to make fun of anybody or start any arguments, I was just pointing out the fact that I thought the OP was trolling because normally a person would just go to the next step of the guide if there weren't any updates.
I don't think you were trying to make fun of some one... actually I don't see nothing wrong on your reply... but I don't think OP was trolling, I think the guy really didn't know how to progress. Maybe OP is just a simple guy who hasn't been ever on the scene.
I had very stupid questions like this when I started on the DS scene a few years ago, but I learn to read properly the tutorials and so, and then... well, here I am... talking about this.
