xD ... have u tried the souls series ?... i guess monsterhunter is a easier xD but yeah
Dark souls? No not really, haven't given that game much thought. I usually enjoy platforming games and fighting games, and mildly some adventure games like legend of zelda, or rpg games. Those Hard core hack and slash stuff isn't really my thing unless is the 2D ones like streets of rage, final fight, or river city ransom.

Monster Hunter World is supposed to be a more casual experience compared to the previous games, so keep in mind that if you try other games after playing World, it likely will feel quite a bit different (and probably worse, cuz pre MH:W games are awful IMO).

As to which you should play, probably stick to just the home console versions, since (IMO again) the portable ones have ass controls that aren't worth bothering with. MH3 got released like 3 times, so if you want the "best" experience for that, Tri U is your best bet there.

so u never tried a monsterhunter game?
There is a demo on WII U, I tried it but found it uneventful, guess I don't have good taste or don't enjoy chasing one enemy around for 30 mins. :P

Guess this suddenly makes sense. :P

I think I have heard people suggest to start with MH4 as it's the most Monster Hunter-y of the recent games, I don't know if that changed now that MHW is out though.
MH Gen has some new elements that make it a bit different from the earlier games, though that might not be a bad thing.
Personally I found the MH series boring as a whole. It's all MMO-tier fetch quests and monster killing. I like games with a clear objective or at least some semblance of a plot.

I rarely hear other people agree with me, I think you and me are in the minority. Everyone else seems to love the series.
I tried to get into it, I even tried multiplayer with some friends, but it's just not doing anything for me.

You're definitely not the only one, I honestly have no idea how people can play Monster Hunter for so long, they're all just MMO Fetch Quest: The Game, as you mentioned. I mean, combat for the "main" monsters basically consists of beating on it for 5 minutes, watch it run away, spend 5 minutes getting to the damn thing again, then beat on it some more, then watch it run away some more, rinse repeat for like half an hour. Capcom managed to make slaying giant monsters boring as all hell, which is depressing.

Online is the only thing remotely interesting to me, but that's just because doing pretty much anything with friends is a generally more enjoyable experience than without. I plan on getting Monster Hunter World for PC, but only because a few of my friends are getting it as well and want me to join in on a group with them.

We are people who just have different opinions like any other and games that have different ways to play just like any other. :P

I don't think it is a bad game, is just not a game I prefer to play. When i played the demo, it just seem like me chasing a monster for 30 minutes across a large area, which got boring especially when my character is so slow and has a stamina situation. Let me be the first to say I hate anything like stamina in a video game. Call me whatever you want but when you need to wait for that thing to recover every time you wanna do something, it gets annoying, is reasons why I didn't enjoy a game like blaster master overdrive on wii. Shooting drains the energy meter as well as anything else you may need to do with the tank, and because you start out with small bar, you had to find upgrades to increase it.

For one thing, I doubt this series is a game intended to be played alone, so most likely you won't find someone doing so unless they have no choice. I for one am not fortunate enough to have such a friend or community to enjoy stuff like that with which wouldn't help if I decide to try the game again. Legend of Zelda Breath of the wild is probably a good option to play for a solo gamer in comparison to the play style, but I did already mention how it features stuff I don't like in games I play, regardless I did complete the game out of not having any other game to play on the switch at the time, and building up a appreciation for what it is. Perhaps, willing to try monster hunter sometime, just not soon as I really don't find it fun from what I watched already.

I'm not a fan of stamina either, though I didn't mind it much in BotW. With stamina maxed out you can run for a long time, and climb for long enough to reach any place as long as you plan your ascent, and it refills quickly. In other Zelda games, magic served a similar purpose, only that didn't refill automatically and magic refills were sometimes hard to find, so I actually prefer stamina.

No, is not that bad... except to me I see it differently. In that game is used for many things, climbing, swimming, sprinting, spin attack, taming horses, gliding... You get the point. The fact that you have to decide between increasing your max live over increasing your stamina when using the 4 orbs changes the dynamic on how player decides to progress, even getting every orb in the game don't give both max life and stamina at the same time. Is that a oversight, I dunno but they don't seem to be trying to fix it (Which is simple as either adding 4 extra shrines, or some way to get more orbs or changing the amount of hearts/stamina you start the game with. Not to mention I noticed many times where I would try to glide, then land in water have to swim and then climb some areas all in single jump making me reroute myself having to avoid shortcuts. Is part of the reason some people did stuff like those flying tree, or "Flying machine" exploits to get around easier.

As for monster hunter, what is that game really? I just was thinking it was some new form of console MMO except not massive since is only 4 people at once instead of a entire server of people.

They added more shrines in DLC pack 2.
Anyway I have 101 shrines completed and stamina maxed out, I have enough hearts that I don't really need any more. Sure the game still gets tough at times but a few more hearts isn't going to change that. Still going to try to complete every shrine though.
I think it was done on purpose as it means your choices affect the way you play more. It ties into the whole open world aspect.
