Hello,
I have baught a very cheap flashcard (golden R4 2017). When it is inserted into my 3DS the battery drops a crazy amount, almost 10% in 2 or 3 hours in sleep mode. The Card is not even used, the 3DS is just in sleep mode while the homescrean is on. I wanted to ask, is this because of the R4 itself or could the micro SD Card in the R4 be the reason for this?
Thanks in advance.

Actually I'm not trully sure if only inserting a cartridge makes the battery life drop like that.
But may be...
I have always my R4iSDHC (http://www.r4isdhc.com/) in my n2DSXL and my battery life on sleep mode must be something on the lines of 30 hrs. and in gameplay it lasts like 5.5 to 6 hrs. with the lowest screen brightness.
We could know more about the flashcard if you show us a pic of it, or if you put links to it's site like I did with mine... that would help to clear out if your battery problem is due to the flashcard itself or because other thing.

it's usually the flashcard itself, some have a tiny cpu inside and it drains power much more than a regular cart does.

I can confirm this, i used to have my sky3ds plus inserted all the time, the battery in sleep mode could hold up to 2-3 days without any use.
Now im on cfw, the battery can hold up to a full week.

This is kind of a known issue with newer flash carts. You just won't have as long of a battery life with a flash cart.
