Ps3 games will work just fine on external hdd
If your leaving them as folder format then you need the hdd formatted as fat32
If your converting them to iso then ntfs formatted drive is needed (fat34 has 4gb single file limit. Iso game is digger than thus)
To make this easy use irisman
It will convert to iso if you wish and will write to ntfs where Multiman won't

Thanks. Theres a program on windows that lets me transfer files bigger than 4gb to a fat32 for Wii games, is there something similar for ps3?
Will games that are bigger 4gb on internal be able to directly transfers to external? Im guessing the folder format is the default format on my ps3 right now?
And for PS1 are they internal only aswell?

You don't need to go down to 3.55
You can patch for 4.**nofsm and directly install the latest cfw bypassing the need to go to 3.55 then dehashing then installing the latest cfw
It's the same with the software downgrader when it's released

For ps2 backups you turn on Cobra in Rebug tool box and install sman then backup your games to internal hdd
Sman will now load and play them

i have many Plus games on my PS3, installing CFW will remove the remaining days?

No but get psn patcher installed and setup properly and don't open any homebrew if you want to go on psn after running psn patcher

i still have 3 years on plus, but for some reason some games didn't updated the counter and still 180 days.
some are updated and shows 900 days.

I think you will be able to downgrade to 4.70 at the least. That means that the 4.70 backup injection expoit will be available to you maybe.
