Hello All...

My question is simple, although I know the answer may not be.

I'm VERY interested in being able to load and run multi-disc Wii game backups (NOT GameCube) from my vWii HDD. I've not seen this addressed in all that I've read, but I'm hoping someone out there knows how to do this, especially using USB Loader GX (my favorite loader).

While there may not be any US games folks are familiar with, there is one Japanese game (Dragon Quest X) that is supposed to be really cool to play. The problem is that it is one of only a few Wii games implemented with two discs, and there are a couple games in the Dragon Quest X series using multi-disc implementation. This probably wouldn't be such an issue if the discs were below the 4G mark, but they are not. Each of the discs is above 4G so I have a .wbfs/.wbf1 for each of the 2 discs per game I want to play.

Any help with this would be GREATLY appreciated, and if there is already a thread on this, please just point me in that direction and I'll read and study.

Thank you in advance...MOST humbly & sincerely...Tom

I don't see the problem. Surely you can just save when you have to change discs, load up USB Loader GX again and load the other disc?

Just put the wbf1 file in the same place as the wbfs

I don't think I was clear. There is a .wbfs/wbf1 for each disc and there are two discs...this is the case for 2 of the games in the series.

Are you saying something that I'm not quite understanding? Each disc's .wbfs/wbf1 files are in the same folder -- the respective games' disc 1 folders. Then the same is true for the respective games' disc 2 folders. So I'm not understanding what you are trying to say.

I don't see the problem. Surely you can just save when you have to change discs, load up USB Loader GX again and load the other disc?

With a two disc game there comes a point where the game tells you to load up the second of the two discs. It doesn't give a chance to save, it just wants to continue on with the game. Also, normally to load up a second disc some residue from the first disc is required, at least that has been my experience with other game systems. One can't simply start by loading up the second disc in a game as far as I know anyway.

I mean I can give this a try, but there is the problem with the game folders and game IDs being the exact same for both discs in the game which also causes some issues I don't know how to get around.

Don't give up on me, I'm new at this so will try what I'm told to try. But I am concerned about those things I mentioned.

MOST humbly & sincerely...Tom

He's saying, can you save your game, and then in USB Loader GX run Disc 2 instead of Disc 1? Or do you not see Disc 2 in USB Loader GX at all? What do you have the files named as?

OK, so I'm to try to run disc two instead of disc 1...got it. That mirrors what The Real JDbye said. I will try that. I haven't got the games loaded up on the vWii yet because the naming convention for both discs of each respective games is the same (i.e. Dragon Master X Game Title 1 [XXXXXX] for both discs 1 & 2) coupled with the fact that I just didn't know what to do.

I'll modify the folder name of disc2 from that of disc 1 and see if it works. I'll report back. I guess I was kind of hoping for a GameCube-like solution, but we'll go with what we've got and see where the path leads.

Thank you so very much...until I report back...MOST humbly & sincerely...Tom

Ohhhhhh....now that is a bugger...I recall that now that you mentioned that. It has been some time since I looked into this game series, so had forgotten, but the very article you led me to is the one I believe I read. As I have no USB ports left, can't very well do this then. But, I think there are other 2-disc games out there, so I'll seek and find and test.

Thanks for this and I'll report back if I find anything else out. MOST humbly & sincerely...Tom

I'm rather new to all of this, though I've learned a lot, I still have a long way to go. So the install wouldn't have to take place on the two ports in the back where my HDDs are hooked up? How would that all work, then, with USB Loader GX? Would I stick a "Stick" into one of the front ports then start up the disc(s) from USB Loader GX for the install to take place?

I'm not exactly sure. You can experiment to see which usb ports work for which devices. It might be that vwii only supports the back ones but again, you'll have to try yourself or try find the info somewhere.

Ya, I was afraid of that. I do know that the back ports are the only ones that support HDDs, and the bottom one is for the WiiU while the top can be used for the vWii. So, I'm guessing I'd need to disconnect one of those drives, most likely the WiiU drive, in order to test this out. We'll see how it goes. Something else I don't know is whether or not the "stick" is "special" as it comes with the discs I've found out. May need to be formatted by the vWii, or it may take a FAT32 format...don't know yet. More to come.

Thanks! MOST humbly & sincerely...Tom

Another issue you will have is dragon Quest x can only be played for the first hour you then have to pay a monthly subscription which requires a japanese credit card.

Well, that is a bummer...won't be doing that then, but knowing how to handle multi-disc games is gold in my book anyhow. Thanks for the heads up on that...I won't waste my time...didn't read that little nugget anywhere to be sure.

I hear, though, they are re-releasing it here in the US on the Switch.

Again, thanks...MOST humbly & sincerely...Tom

I think that's the ONLY multi-disc game ever made (for the Wii)

that's the only multi disc game, and that game doesn't work with usb loaders.
that game requires IOS59 (there's no cIOS59)
that game is a MMORPG, which require subscription, why would you want to play that game if you can't actually pay to play it?
The game need to be installed to a HDD formatted in a special format (Wii File system) encrypted by nintendo. the USBLoader will not access it.

Well, Cyan, now that I know more about the game series I won't be playing it for sure. It sounds like a cool game and I think we all like to play cool games, but not at the cost of this one, so no worries...I'm out on this one. I was more interested in handling multi-disc games for Wii anyway, and as this is only one of just a few it is no longer an issue.

I am sorry I've wasted so many folks time on this though...I hope you won't hold it against me. MOST humbly & sincerely...Tom
