Hello :)

I finally (yay!) ordered a switch through a friend that is travelling, and he will bring it to me. Yay! Sadly, no games included.
I checked the serial number, apparently it will come with 3.0.1, so updating is a no-brainer.

Which game to you think it's good to have?
(Yeah, I"m aware of the Essentials topic that every console here has, sadly it's usually outdated)

Also it's good to mention I have a Wii U, with Zelda: BotW and Mario Kart, so these two are probably out of question.

Right now, I'm split between a digital purchase of Mario Odyssey, Splatoon 2 and Xenoblade.

For those who has Mario Odyssey, how many hours to beat it? When I got Super Mario 3D World, I beat it VERY fast, so this is kinda weighting against it.

Thank you very much in advance! :D

I don't own a Switch but I could give you some sort of advice.
Let's based it on their genre or at least the target audience/gamers it's intended to:
Mario Odyssey - platform game,
Splatoon 2 - generally a multiplayer game, contains single player but replayability on multiplayer.
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 - RPG will eat up most of your time.

If you want to play Mario Odyssey, you can just buy it and sell it as soon as you finished the game so you can move on and get Xenoblade 2. Hopefully, you'll consider getting the physical copy so you can resell it. The replayability value of this game is getting it 100%, unlocking levels and collecting stuff, doing challenges. Choose Splatoon if you want to compete online and keep on fragging those squids since this is where the replayability lies and some fashion gears, weapons, etc. Xenoblade 2 if you really want to play RPG, lots of grinding and stuff, epic story (I hope), if you love the first one or Xenoblade series, then you'll probably love this one.

Personally, if I own a Switch and my budget limit is on a single game among the 3, I'd pick Mario since it's already out and has damn good reviews then probably get Xenoblade 2 later. I'm not much into online multiplayer especially if I don't have always internet access.

I'd get Odyssey. There's really a ton of content after the main story, so you can probably play it for ~100 hours

Odyssey is supposedly kinda short, I haven't beaten it yet but I also haven't been playing it very often.
Splatoon 2 has lots of replay value, especially if you haven't played the first one. It's the kind of game that's best played in short sessions (an hour or two) but you can keep coming back to it over and over and it's still a lot of fun.
If you have played the first one enough that you feel like you are done with that game, Splatoon 2 doesn't bring a whole lot new to the table. It has new stages and weapons but it still feels like the same game unless you're playing Salmon Run, which is decent but I found it repetitive. Not enough different types of enemies to keep it fresh and the stages are very small.
All 3 are definitely worth getting but which one to get first is kind of up to you. I'm not that into shooters and still got hours upon hours of enjoyment out of the original Splatoon. Can't say the same about the sequel since it still feels like I'm playing the same game, which I was already "done" with long before I got the sequel.
Personally I would get Odyssey because it's a game you can play for hours at a time (although not to the same degree as BotW which I could not put down once I picked it up until I got so hungry I couldn't stand it anymore or I had to go to sleep) whereas Splatoon 2 is better for filling in the gaps when you're bored and have nothing better to do. Xenoblade doesn't interest me so I can't really comment on that.

It all depends on what kind of games you like.

I must say I have had hours of fun in Steamworld Dig 2, and even more hours in Stardew Valley.
I guess Bomberman R' is decent. I don't know what the price is now, but I felt it was quite pricey at release.

Odysesy was kinda short, I beat it and collected another 50 moons in about 20 hours. Theres still lots to do however after you beat the game, roughly 500 more moons for me now and the length largely varies on skill level, which for me is rather low so many more hours.

Xenoblade 2, although not out yet, is almost guaranteed to be a longer experience I'd say. It depends if you like rpg's and platformers, personally I wouldn't miss either of these titles, they're system sellers.

Odyssey is kind of short, but is fun packed. I think it is really worth it.
Xenoblade 2 is still not out, so I haven't even tried. I will recommend it, but my recommendation is fully biased, after all I bought my Switch for that game.

same, Xenoblade 2 was the main reason I got a Switch. The last 2 Xenoblade games have been the best games I played on their respective platforms I am hopefull that this will be no different.

What with Xenoblade 2, Zelda and Skyrim if Switch never got another game I'd be more than happy with it.

Sadly I might not have access to physical copies... So buying and selling might not be possible :(
But still, thanks for the advice! :D

These are my favorite games on the Switch at the moment
(in no particular order)

Steamworld Dig 2
Axiom Verge
Stardew Valley
Super Mario Odyssey
Zelda Breath of the Wild
Mario + Rabbids

Buy those, and you'll be playing for a long time.

I'm going to buy Skyrim when it's released, never played it before.

for physical games get one of these :
- The Legend of Zelda Breath of The Wild
- Super Mario odyssey
- Rayman Legends
- DOOM
- SKYRIM

for eShop games get one these :
- Metal Slug 3 (or maybe X)
- Strikers 1985
- Azure Striker Gunvolt
- Steamworld Dig 2
- etc (too many to list)

Me though, First time I finally got my hands on the Switch was specifically for Zelda even though Mario has been released at the time I got the Switch because I like games where it simply just let you go wherever you want, and that is also why I'm getting also Skyrim when it released.

You mean 1945. Here's hoping they re-release the other Psikyo Shumps like the sequels Strikers 1945 II, III (Arcade exclusive) and Plus, Gunbird, Sengoku Ace and Blade, Space Bomber (Arcade exclusive), Pilot Kids (Arcade exclusive), etc.

Sqaureboy vs. Bullies is one of the easiest beat 'em ups I played of all time, now I have only two more stages to beat, and I've had only one death so far.

From what I have played (I just got mine a few weeks ago).

Odyssey is fantastic. The main storyline is easy, but there are a ton of collectibles.
Binding of Isaac is very good, tons of depth, and really never gets old. It's a dark game though.
Sonic Mania is a steal at 20 dollars. It's a new old school Sonic game done well.
Rocket League is another steal at 20 if you enjoy online multiplayer games. A unique competitive game.
Shovel Knight is great IF you haven't played it on another platform yet. Pass if you already have it.

If you can find it used, Bomberman R is also fun multiplayer. Not worth 40, but I was happy with paying 20 for my copy.
Snake Pass is worth a purchase on sale. Not worth 20 IMO, but the recent sale where it was 10 was an OK price to pay.

I have yet to buy Zelda, but its on my list, just waiting for the Explorers Edition. I would guess that it's an instant buy though.
