3DS lifespan is coming to an end but that doesnt mean is not worth getting one. There are a lot of games to play and USUM looks really amazing.

In my opinion it would be better to get a Switch cause 2018 is 100% focus on it, but that depends on you/if you can save the money for a Switch.

You could wait, play USUM and then give iyour old 3DS to your nephew cause i dont think we have anything worth waiting after USUM.

Regarding your main question, the N2DSXL is good and people would always say something bad about anything. I think that the N3DS XL is the way to go if you want to get the best of the 3DS family, but it would cost more and at that point i would just save for a Switch.

You can do what i did, get a second hand N3DSXL, play USUM with it and then sell it if you want your money back.

I just got a Switch, but I am not sure if I stay on 3.0 or below. Which mean no Mario etc. for me =/

Well, thats your decision, but at this point i just think is better to play the games you want cause we dont know when homebrew access/free games/wathever would be available for us. I have a Switch too and belive me, games like Odyssey, Splatoon 2, maybe Metroid/Pokemon in one or two years are worth.

Going back to the main question, if you already have a 3DS then i dont see the point on getting a new one. Play USUM and then give it to your nephew, if you want to give that one right now then get a second hand 3DS. Dont spend 150-250$ on a console that is not going to get first party support anymore.

Anyway, thats just how i see it. Do what you want at the end of the day, is your decision.

i've been wanting to buy n2dsxl because i can't see 3d anymore, and since i have my o3ds since launch date
i've seen people saying it's very light and that it feels very cheap, but that did not discouraged me from buying the console, i've actually been saving money since its release

To keep? N3DS XL. Best portable console i ever had. I would recommend it 100%. Is just better quality, bigger, more confortable. Best all around.

At the end is personal preference cause N2DS and N3DS both acomplish the same function, but like i said, all around better and quality, the N3DS XL.

Oh by the way, just make sure the N3DS XL is in good condition, not regular, just good or perfect. Otherwise then i would go for the N2DS XL, just to avoid any problem.

I'd say get whichever is cheaper. They're basically the same, so maybe get a used New 3DS XL. The N2DS XL has a tab on the bottom that contains the micro SD slot and game card slot so you don't have to unscrew the brittle backplate everytime you want to put something on the SD card.
