I need to transfer some Pokemon from Soul Silver to Sun. However I don't have Black or another DS/3DS to trade to. I was suggested to try out PKHEX and PKSM but PKHEX only works on emulator based saves from what I've understood and I haven't been able to do more than try some event injections through PKSM onto my Soul Silver cart that have remained unsuccessful I guess. Is there any other way or any other software that I should use or am I missing something important here?

You talking on a flashcart or physical carts? TWLSaveTool is what you need

without external editors, you would need to find a copy of b/w/b2/w2 and use the poke transfer in that game (along with another (3)ds, after completing the storyline). Then you would need to use the poke transporter and get a pokemon bank subscription (its only $5 for a whole year, and you get mewium z). I had to do this for my pokemon from heart gold, but I had to have my friend help me with their copy of pokemon white 2.

I have a physical cart of the game. I want to like send my Pokemon off to Sun without the Black route because I don't have friends with DS/3DS.

You can just use TWLSaveTool to dump your cartridge save and then do the rest with PKHeX.

Sorry I know this is quite the old topic, but once you backup your save file, then what? How do you exactly trade your pkmn from HGSS to the new gens?

gotta use the bank, bud. and you gotta have a gen 5 game too.

or you could save edit with pkhex and manually transfer them that way, but legality may be questionable at that point.

i have 2 3ds and Vgen game but don't wanna get a bank as I am not a big player so would just use it once to transfer.

If you have a way to dump/restore your save files (i.e CFW) then you can use TWLsavetool as stated before to dump your save game.

Then use JKSM to dump your save for Pokemon Sun/Moon. Open two instances of PKHeX on your PC and load a save file in each. Literally drag your Gen 4 pokemon from the window to the Gen 7 opened window. The program uses the exact same transfer method as the official bank. Your pokemon will still be 100% legal.

The only time this has been an issue was when Gen 1 VC was FIRST released and support was attempted before the official method released; which resulted in pokemon that were not converted correctly. This is no longer true.

Pkhex works just fine woth cartridge dumped pokemon saves from the cia TWLSaveTool on TitleDB.

You can use FBI for DS game injection as well as 3rd party cartridge dumpers, and TWLsaveTool. Flashcard saves are stored as individual files on the flashcard's SD, so those aren't an issue.

I did dump the save from my HG cartridge 2 days ago, used it on the emulator, put event pokemon on it and got it back on my game.

You're right, I stand corrected. My FBI is older than dirt Lol so I wasn't aware they added it like a year ago.

its only 5 bucks for a year (or 15, correct me if im wrong), so just to use it. if you don't have that much to spare to send pokemon between games, i would say you have bigger issues to address.

or just use pkhex and transfer them from dumped saves through that.
