Hey! I am such a noob when it comes to this stuff, I apologize for that. However, I bought a New 3DS XL today, and I was looking around for flashcards that could play actual 3ds roms on it. To my surprise, its such a jungle for me. So, my question is, What flashcard can I buy that will be able to play 3ds roms? Also, do i need to put CFW on my New 3ds to be able to play roms?

Save yourself the trouble of a flashcard, CFW and a large MicroSD card are all you'll need. (though you will also need an NTRBoot-compatible NDS flashcard if you're on 11.4 to 11.6).
I would highly recommend checking out https://3ds.guide to find out which method you will need to use to get your 3DS onto CFW, and for more info about the things you'll need if you're on one of the more recent firmwares.

When you've got your CFW sorted out, It's as simple as installing FreeShop (pretty much the definitive method for getting games) or scouting around the internet for games in CIA format and install them using FBI, to start putting 3DS roms onto your MicroSD.

NTRBOOT doesn't work on 11.6?

NTRBOOT doesn't work on 11.6?
I dunno. In the version table on 3ds.guide, the 11.4/11.5 row instructs users to use the "All versions" method, and then there's 11.6 just below it that says "Installing Boot9Strap (DSiWare)" and nothing about NTRBoot. It's a bit confusing...

So, what card can handle the NTRBoot? Any of the R4 cards? Which one in that case is the best for the job? I can see that the R4i-SDHC 3DS is kinda cheap here in Sweden, would one of those work to download and play 3DS roms on?

Please don't be cheap and buy an SDHC, seriously spend the extra $10 and get the R4i Gold RTS. It's 100% compatible with NTRBootHax, works on all system models and firmwares and has a hell of a lot less bugs than the newly released SDHC compatibility with NTRHaX. I have seen more people having trouble with those cards than any other all because they want to be cheap, or buy from a local distributor and pay the same price as buying an R4i Gold online.

Just check this section; every other thread is an issue with the R4i SDHC. If I were you, I'd get the R4i Gold RTS.

No OFW update can block NTRBoot. NTRBoot is a bootrom exploit, so it will require entirely new hardware to be blocked. DSiware, Hardmod, and NTRBoot should all be under the "ALL VERSIONS" method, as none of them can be blocked through OFW updates.

The CFW is highly recommended at the moment but if u want to play games through flashcard then i'd recommend you to use sky3ds+ but it's something around $80....

StarGate, or Sky3DS+ can play 3DS roms directly with no other steps. StarGate is not yet released but they both cost about $80.

Or you can spend $20 on an R4i-Gold 3DS RTS (the R4ids.cn version) and use some free software to convert it to an NTRBootHax cart and install CFW which would allow you to install 3DS/GBA/GBC/SNES/NES games to your 3DS's SD card and launch them from the Home Menu along with other things like cheats, rom hacks, DLC and more.

Then you can convert the flashcard back to normal and use it to play NDS games.

That's good to know, selfishly speaking because I was starting to lament getting the R4i Gold when the SDHC compatible release came 4 days after my cart was finally delivered. Since I already have a flashcart for DS rom needs (an RTS Lite 2015 model), the R4i Gold is a permanent NTRBoot card.

Answering the question strictly (though I suggest going CFW over flashcart), the current best option is *gulp* Gateway, until StarGate(way) comes out. It has its own cheat system (that's been gradually converted to NTR Plugins), it has an Emunand (CFW has that plus CFW'd sysnand), it has rom loading (cias are better especially when wanting to go online). As you can see by the parentheses, Gateway can do things, but CFW does them differently/better.

En, you can go to 3ds guid site to choose an NTR flashcart or if you are still looking for a plug and play method to play 3ds roms, Sky3ds+ card is the choice.

Yes, if you want it to be convenient, sky3ds+ is the best choice, it support .3ds rom directly, just plug and play. If you want to save money, both R4i Gold 3DS RTS and Ace3ds X is both ok, they compatible with NTRBootHax.

The threads that appear every day are from reading 3ds.guide, as the single system 3ds guide provides a non-working flasher, and I have to redirect them to the working (albeit experimental) flasher.
The experimental flasher has had about 20-25 confirmed reports of it working, and the only "bricks" I've seen were with the WiFi flashcarts, NOT the Gold Pro and the Dual-Core.
