Yeah I'm not going to lie and claim I know it all, anyone who does is a fool lol.
I've been coding for quite a long time, and I'm always learning new things all the time.

But about the 7zip stuff, that's just what I read that it used, I've been more a rar guy and haven't strayed to far from it.

Oh man I totally get what you're saying.
And what Hakchi told me, I have like 250 something megs of space. Which isn't much. (perhaps that was a bug?)
But I'm going to give it a shot though.

100% agreed. It will take time, I just wanted to let you guys know I was at least in the works on it. I'm just the kind of person that truly believes the future holds great things, and the problem with the future is, data is just getting bigger and bigger and without a new up to date compression systems, that will ultimately be holding us back. Yeah 7Zip and all that right now might be okay, but when downloads become petabytes there's going to need to be something better.

---------

Now with this being said, just have a little faith in me guys, it's not the first time I've been down a dark dirty road at night and came out victorious :D
There are some compression formats that sacrifice speed to get the smallest size possible and they can do incredible things.
That isn't really suited for on the fly decompression nor for the specs of the SNES Classic though.
Even if there are some space savings to be had, I'm not sure if they would be big enough to justify the effort, 7-zip is already very good.
But without people like you trying to improve on things, even if it seems like a difficult task, there wouldn't be innovation.
So I say go for it.

I've honestly and truly have believed that one day we will get to a 1 byte compression rate. Not with our computers how they are now, but any number, no matter what it is can eventually be broken down to 0 or 1, not saying we will ever do that, but mathematically it's certainly possible. I hate when people sit there and say "It's impossible" and a year later someone finally does it lol.

EDIT: And I appreciate your support! Means a lot mate.

You have, however, made some big claims in your opening posts...

What?

Ah. Didn't even remotely see this as a troll attempt. Well done you managed to hook fishes on both sides of the debate.

What?

A1: I'm just confident I can do it.
A2: I was meaning I've been down roads people told me I couldn't accomplish something and I did it, simply because they told me I couldn't. (in general).

If you are really not trolling you should read up on simple compression algorithms first. LZW for example. Then try something more complex, maybe involving Huffman trees.

Then rethink your attempts and posts.

See my edit. You're either trolling or delusional.

I'm not trolling nor delusional.
There's always gotta be that one person who tries to bring the worst to any situation. Here I am trying to do something nice for the community,
I mean if I am misinformed then just tell me why and educate me, not that I'm delusional or trolling.

Just because it hasn't been done yet, doesn't mean it won't ever happen.
People are stuck in these boxes that they listen and accept what is possible today is the only thing possible in the future.
I honestly believe in the future anything is possible, I don't let the limits of today overshadow the limits of the future.

I admit I can sound a bit over-confident at times, it's because I'm excited and working on new problems is what pushes me, I enjoy it, and I learn something new every day, even though I've been learning how to code sense I was 8 years old (29 now). I make a living working from home doing it, and I don't have to do this, I just want too. Even if I epic fail, crash and burn, the experience I gain through it adds to my knowledge and makes me a better programmer, but it's still not going to make me not try because it seems impossible to create something that can benefit us all.

But anyways, I really don't want to drag the topic away from what the intended thread was supposed to be, please I just ask to be nice, understand I'm not perfect and either support what I'm trying to do or don't. But nevertheless, I'm going to try it, and if I succeed, then you can have it and use it, or not. Don't really matter to me.

I think this is where everyone is getting confused, as mentioned I've messed with compression before, but I'm trying something completely different, I already know how I want this to work, and it will give a positive result, I just don't know the percent yet because I'm still working on it.

No... You have claimed that you believe any number in the world can be minimised down to either 0 or 1. It's not *my* job to try and educate you on why that's impossible. If you're going to make radical claims then you need to back it up with tangible sources or some kind of justification for how you arrived at such ridiculous conclusions.
