Ah, that's right. it might not be compatible with older firmware versions. It's been a while. You should bring it back from 5.00 CFW to 5.00 OFW before updating. http://downloads.pspspot.net/firmware/762-5-00-official-psp-firmware.html. After, updating to any 6.XX firmware should do the trick. You can update with the 6.61.PBP from here, just rename it 'EBOOT.PBP'.

There's always a slight chance the older CFW changed some things not compatible with OFW, so there's a greater chance of bricking. At least that's what the old forum posts say. Even then, it's a soft-brick and can be recovered, though it's a pain.

So then, should I go back and do that or leave it as is?

On another note, my old iso tool and Ultimate Vhs Menu does not seem to be working, know where I can get new ones?

The update and CFW installation was successful, so there's no need. I assume Wololo has the latest, but I'll have to look around.

Iso Tool: http://wololo.net/talk/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=9644

It looks like they didn't update Ultimate VSH Menu to be compatible with later firmwares. PRO's VSH menu is pretty serviceable. I think the additional settings that aren't there, are in the recovery menu.

it starts it and then turns off. nothing happens.
The only two that start is fast recovery and the cfw should I try re-installing it?

Update: Alright after it froze and rebooted I went back to the vcfw and I can now open the configuration and on the left is two options Pro and ME and on the right is says to update but when I click it says files cant be found

Davee discontinued the updates because 1.03 caused bricks, so Update does not work. Just select the CFW you installed and exit out of the application. That's it.

With your 3000, if you want a permanent Custom FirmWare, your only option is this Infinity tutorial. That involves updating to 6.61.

Does this make a permanent mod for PSP 3000 possible or not? I've been out of it all for a few years now and my PSP 2000 seems to be unresponsive after years, so I might need to get a new device...

What advantage do I have when I upgrade from my 6.xx infinity custom firmware?

afaik, none. you can spoof the firmware with a text file named I think version.txt in the seplugins directory. it should look like this:

Code:
release:6.61:
build:4047,0,3,1,0:builder@vsh-build6
system:55383@release_661,0x06070010:
vsh:p6544@release_661,v56454@release_661,20091118:
target:1:WorldWide

it will fail at psp downloads though, but you can pretend to be on the latest firmware. it's not worth upgrading past 6.60 though as a lot of plugins don't work, and its fixes are minimal. I think it only fixes bugs in like 2 games, plus ap fixes.
