Which emulator is that? I've never had the SNES sounds work on any that I've tried.

The only problem with Super Game Boy is it didn't have the correct clock speed, games ran what, 1.5% or faster and the audio sounded weird. The Japan only Super Game Boy 2 fixed that.

I have both a European and a American one... I prefer the American one for nostalgia reasons, and I like the concave set of buttons. Also I plan to hack both use one for extra memory space in case I can't fit all the games I want onto one (still have space for save states, etc), as well as possibly using one for Sega Genesis emulation with the Wireless Fighting Commander controller.

I'm a american living in the UK and I for one always hated the US model. It's fugly. WTF was Nintendo of America thinking changing the look? I never like it. I bought the Japanese import console on release day. Cost me a arm and a leg. The Japanese and UK models are much more pleasing to the eye imho. Nostalgia reasons or not.

The US one is a bit blocky but the EUR one is sleek, more pleasing to the eye.

To be honest I find both to be 'blocky' products of the 90s.... I think the American version looks more 'sterile' and 'modular'. I always thought it looked 'cleaner' to the competition's often 'black' units of its competitions such as Sega. The purple and periwinkile coloring maybe 'child friendly' but nothing really special.. The four colors on the Japanese Famicom/Euro SNES looks 'retro' to me like something out of the 70s but I can't place where I've seen similar use of colors in a logo. But it neither impresses me or pushes me away from it either. I don't consider one inherently greater than the other. There are elements I like form both designs.

The n64 for on the other hand had much smoother, sleeker and curvy lines.

But I played the hell out of my American SNES in the day, it still works really well, and last time I played it still as grey as the day I bought it. No 'plastic lower half yellowing' like found in many UK ones. But its currently boxed away.

It's not something that can be argued for or against, there is no right or wrong answer... Different people enjoy different appearances of things. Some people like the appearance of the original Famicom over the NES, some people like Super Famicom look over the American SNES. Some people like the opposite... Never figure out why huamns are so different ;).

I have both so I have the best of both worlds!

The only emulator that runs Super Gameboy emulation is BSNES as far as I know? It's not perfect either and runs a bit slow.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Animaniacs on the Super Gameboy Bsnes emulator to show off improved SNES music and effects.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Donkey Kong to show off the full color Super Gameboy MOde.

Space Invaders showing of the SNES full color mode.

Metroid Super Gameboy built in color scheme:

Picross and its use of the borders to extend the artwork in the game (Mario's face).

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Here is some information about talking about BSNES and how to get it running through Launchbox on PC.

Ok, Then I already have it but never got it set up right, untill now. You should get Higan if your still running BSNES. BSNES was merged with other emulator cores and renamed to Higan, so it is the most up to date version of BSNES. Maybe it will run games better then what your using now?
Higan's homepage is https://byuu.org/

Why Sonic the Hedgehog 4 (World)? That is basically just a rom hack. Some people might argue that it's not a very good one.
Besides the SNESC might not run it right, considering that most emulators have some trouble with it as well.

That's actually for N3DS SNES VC as far as I can tell, which has a different header than the SNES classic games. The SNES classic games use the Wii U VC header, which is much more compact. Most of the details remain the same, but a few change:

As far as I can tell, the Wii U header (and footer, which is always included, at least on SNES classic) is like this (the footer is largely incomplete):

It's not more compact, it's just separated into two parts, one in the beginning and one in the end of ROM file.
I tried to reverse-engineer it a little bit using SNES Mini and Wii/Wii U/New 3DS' Virtual Console ROMs, some basic info about SNES ROMs and some information from 3dbrew.org about New 3DS' VC header.
It looks like they're using the same ROM format, replacing SNES' SPC700 BRR format samples with PCM.

That's what I came up with:
Code:
1st header:
Start: Size: Desc:
0x00 0x4 0x00000100
0x04 0x4 File Size (inc. header)
0x08 0x4 0x00000030
0x0C 0x4 End of the ROM region (not the file)
0x10 0x4 Start of the footer region (presumably an index for the PCM audio samples). Matches end of file/file size if PCM data is missing (according to 3dbrew.org)
0x14 0x4 Points to the second header (starts with 3C, looks to be mostly the same as New 3DS' SNES VC header starting from 0x30)
0x18 0x4 File Size/End of file? (same as 0x04)
0x1C 0x4 0x00000000
0x20 0x4 Points to the end of file
0x24 0x8 Wii U Virtual Console Game ID (WUP-J**X, X — title region (E for EUR)?)
0x2C 0x4 0x00000000

2nd header/footer (0x3C...):
Start: Size: Desc:
0x00     0x1      Emulation speed in FPS (0x3C == 60)
0x01 0x3 ROM size
0x04 0x1 0x00
0x05 0x3 Size of the converted PCM audio samples region (starting after ROM). 0 if PCM data is missing (according to 3dbrew.org)
0x08 0x1 0x00
0x09 0x2 Footer region size. 0 if PCM data is missing (according to 3dbrew.org)
0x0B 0x2 0x0000
0x0D 0x2 Game preset ID? (varies for each game) (according to 3dbrew.org)
0x0F 0x1 Unknown (0x02/0x03, mostly 0x02)
0x10 0x1 Sound volume (according to 3dbrew.org)
0x11 0x1 ROM Type (LoROM/HiROM, 0x14/0x15)
0x12 0x8 0x0000000000000000
0x1A 0x4? Unknown (mostly 0x00000100)
0x1E 0x4? Unknown (always 0x00000100)

So, the SNES Mini's ROM structure looks something like this:
[1st header]
[ROM with PCMF pointers for PCM samples], same as .rom in Wii Virtual Console WAD archive
[PCM samples], same as .pcm in Wii Virtual Console WAD archive
[PCM index/ROM patches?], same as .var in Wii Virtual Console WAD archive
[2nd header/footer]

We should try the usual SMC/SFC ROM dumps and see if the sound is working properly.
If SNES Mini's emulator (canoe) handles BRR format just fine, there's no point in figuring sample conversion stuff.
If that's the case, it's very easy to generate working headers (just using zeroes for the PCM stuff) and just load the result with canoe.

Does anyone know if it will be possible for the SNESC to run roms that are patched with translations, expansions, randomizes, etc?

I've modified my sega genesis USB hub in the picture to a pi and have got that loaded with all mame, amiga and Sega games etc. The nes mini runs every (decent) nes title and hopefully the snes mini will be able to run a few more snes games soon too. :)
Hmm... But what can this KEY be used for? ;P
