Hardware Joy-Con locking mechanism broke :/

I'm not doubting your situation or anything, i just want to know what to avoid so mine dont break. One already 'creaks' and has a bit too much play when trying to wobble it around when its locked into place.
I've heard some of them wear out early and break under normal use because of factory defects.

My left Joy-Con is fucked. My Switch doesn't recognize it when I slide it in.

It fixed itself? It works now.

This has happened to me before.
The joycon would only work wireless, you would slide it in and it just wouldn't recognize it was plugged in, it would continue to work wireless.
I rebooted the console, plugged and unplugged the joycon, casted a couple of spells, nothing seemed to work.
Then after the nth time I reconnected it, it was recognized and it didn't ever happen again.

No idea what was the problem or how it got fixed, but as it didn't repeat itself I forgot about it.
