Here's a video of how I'm doing it. I have the AR DSi in the back, and I'm making sure to press all of the buttons. the back of the flashlight is a magnet. Ive tested it on my other consoles and it's easily capable of triggering sleep mode on them.

EDIT: I've even tried placing multiple magnets all over the console. It will never load into anything besides blue screen:

It seems like you're doing it correctly. Are you using the ARDSi with the sd slot?

Another important thing to note since you have the original 3DS: Try placing the magnet on the 3ds and turning it on without the button combo. If you placed the magnet correctly, the 3ds should not turn on. If it turns on with the magnet on it, you are probably not triggering sleep mode.

no, it doesn't have sd card slot, only game cartridge slot.

it turns on unless i place it on the side of the console. i tried it on my unbricked 3ds xl to see if it would load into decrypt 9, but that didn't either. so is it a problem with the AR DSi? If so i could probably get another one from a friend tomorrow and test

At the moment I think only the version with an SD slot is supported, I couldn't get my non-SD AR working either.

Is an original DS action replay supported? My friend has one that I can borrow tomorrow
It seems so, although the method for installing ntrboot is not the same as for the ARDSi (check out the OP for the method for the regular DS version). If your friend's AR doesn't work and it doesnt match the picture in the Op it's probably also unsupported, but I dont think there's an unsupported version of the regular DS version.

Yeah, I'll read it. I hope it works

i can't for the love of Amaterasu get it to work on my R4igoldcc firmware version 7.0 tho' it supposedly patches the cartridge, but then nothing happens the flashcard keeps working as usual maybe it just happens because firmware, but is there another r4igoldcc confirmed to work with this patch like it's intended to? was it FWversion 7.0?

The AR still works as normal even with ntrboot installed. Have you tried to boot into ntrboot?

Hi guys, I'm also running into a problem with the ARDS. I have an ARDS that's just like the one in the OP's pic, only with a red instead of blue label. I used the CRC-corrected ntrboothax installer file by RattletraPM, and Code manager flashed it without fuss......but using the ARDS to install B9Strap on the target system (Old3DS xl on 11.4) isn't working.

I insert the card, hold power + start + select + X with a proper magnet in place and one of two things happens:

1. No response from console at all.

Or

2. Blue power led lights up for approx. 1 second, then stays off.

I have way too many questions at this point -- I am unable to return the ARDS to stock, attempting to boot the card in my DS Phat results in a lockup during ninty's bootup health and safety screen. Is the ARDS bricked? Is there any way to check if the ntrboothax firmware is properly written to the card? Is there any way to force original firmware back to the card outside of the NDS roms that have been linked to? TWL loader boots the rom but does not detect the card is inserted, and the ARDS is not natively compatible with my other 3DS's.

Since neither @al3x_10m nor I own one of these cards, we can't really test them. The only suggestion he has right now is to update the card to the latest official firmware and retry with the ARDSi steps from scratch.

There's 2 firmware updates on CodeJunkies for the 3DS compatible ARDSi. I've tried them both and neither works. Here's what I did:
  1. Downgrade to the earlier firmware
  2. Test in 3DS, Action Replay is recognized, but won't launch
  3. Reset with patched .exe
  4. Insert ARDSi into 3DS Start+Select+X+Power+magnet, black screen
  1. Upgrade to latest firmware
  2. Test in 3DS, Action Replay is recognized and launches correctly
  3. Reset with patched .exe
  4. Insert ARDSi into 3DS Start+Select+X+Power+magnet, black screen

Nevermind my previous post. Figured out i was misnaming my files. 3ds.guide says to name the installer boot.firm, but the ARDS instructions are to name it ntrboot.firm. Missed that little detail. Card works, successfully installed B9s!! :D

Still need to a good method of reverting the ARDS to stock, now......

Im trying this, when my new Cable is there haha ^^.
Last i used this was 2011 its a while ago ^^.

The forntside of my Action Replay says "ACTION REPLAY DS UPDATES codejunkies.com/ds-updates"
But the User Guide says its an Action Replay DSI.
I think its an DSI, it works on 3DS.
Is this one Compatible ?

Code manager has just let me write the update file for the SD slot variant of the ARDSi to my non-SD version. Admittedly it doesn't work on my AR, it jsut hangs after the 'Datel' logo, but I thought it was interesting that it would let me write the incompatible update in the first place, possibly something that could be used to get ntrboot onto the non-worky ARs?

Just test it on my AR DSi black with SD Card, it doesn't work (the software flash the AR but it doesn't boot the ntrboot.firm)

And i can't test my old AR DS (one of the first AR DS) because my computer doesn't recognize the AR DS (i should do a XP VM)

EDIT : Nevermind, it just worked with AR DSI now !

I had your same problem: boot the .nds file with a flashcard, then swap the cart but the code manager didn't recognize...etc...
But I found a version 1.0 of the ards rom (the one in this guide is 1.71) that recognize it
i don't know if i can attach it here, if it's not allowed i'll remove it

I love you. This worked.

*Sounds* like it worked. Do you have ntrboot.firm on your SD? If your 3DS turns off immediately, that's usually indicating that B9S couldn't find a firm to boot.

I have way too many questions at this point -- I am unable to return the ARDS to stock, attempting to boot the card in my DS Phat results in a lockup during ninty's bootup health and safety screen. Is the ARDS bricked?
It's not bricked. Your DS getting stuck during boot is a good sign, mine does that too.

There should be a mega link to *another* .nds to boot off your flashcard in my first quote that might work for you when trying to restore your Action Replay back to stock. The one linked in the OP was based on the latest firmware, which seems to be causing some issues with my AR when trying to connect to the PC (the AR doesn't seem to recognize the cable being connected).
