Basic google work can reveal cheap sources of modchips.
Wasn't trying to offend you but if I'm expected to keep track of resellers with cheap chips I could just as well sell chips meself..

Aye, the Xecuter chips are collectors items as they where the best and aren't being made anymore.

Whiffed an Xbox hard mod. Now I'm just giving up. It's not a big deal; someone sent me their old system anyway. It was already softmodded, so it's about as foolproof as it gets.

(By the way, someone on YouTube described installing a mod chip in an Xbox 1.6 as "very easy." Excuse me, I need to go punch them in the butt now.)

Anyone that's a bit competent with soldering can do it.

You underestimate the difficulty of this mod, or overestimate the skill of the average modder. If it were a matter of just installing the pin header, that wouldn't be so tough, but modding a 1.6 model Xbox requires soldering to multiple points, each 1mm or less in size.

Maybe you didn't have any trouble with it. But you shouldn't assume that the mod is easy for everybody just because it was easy for you.

Is the hardmod so borked that it doesn't boot? Or are you still getting error 16?

The Original Xbox was the first console I modded, I've probably softmodded at least 8 of them by now. I also helped one guy install a modchip, but I've never really seen much of an advantage for modchips, especially when you can do a TSOP flash (which unfortunately isn't possible on 1.6 motherboards.) Where are you located? I'm in southeast Virginia, I'd be willing to help.

I know that it's possible to kill a hard drive during a hard drive swap, but I've never had it happen to me, and I know I screwed up and had to retry the swap dozens of times with my first mod.

A Modchip with a OS have a big advantage over tsop flashed mods.

Like what? With a TSOP flash I'm able to load backups and homebrew from the hard drive as well as the DVD drive, and I can replace the hard drive without worrying about the unique hard drive key.

What more functionality could a modchip give me, besides running one of those LCD mods?

I'll admit that webflashing is a pretty nifty feature, but why on earth would the average end user need multiple bioses? I only see very limited cases where somebody would use something like that.

Ik with PBL but it is just handy if you use a dev bios very often.

I'll admit that webflashing is a pretty nifty feature, but why on earth would the average end user need multiple bioses? I only see very limited cases where somebody would use something like that.

Im not an average user so it is useful for me. I often swap bioses (mostly dev bioses) some didn't boot at all so if i flashed it normally i would have a bricked console.
