So I'm new to all this CFW/hacking stuff and it's safe to say that I have no idea what I'm doing. I was following 3ds.guide until for some reason SafeHax wouldn't launch. So I decided to redownload the files and follow this youtube guide: . I did it before with one of my other 3DS's so I didn't think it was that big of a difference to switch and redownload the files. Only problem, it wouldn't boot into GodMode9. So I decided that I must've done something wrong and would just delete all the Homebrew files and start again from scratch. I deleted all folders/hacks and only kept DCIM and Nintento 3ds. Now my 3ds won't boot- it has a black screen and the blue light turns on before shutting off. Is there a way to fix this or am I bricked?

This means that your console has B9S, but there is no FIRM on the SD card (or CTRNAND) for it to boot from.

Put the boot.firm from the latest Luma release on your SD card and pick up with 3ds.guide from here and you should be fine.

If your 3ds stayed on with the black screen, and didn't turn off, then you'd be bricked. You're not bricked.

Thank you! Should I also reinstall the items I deleted? Mainly the ones listed in this part of the guide. I have the 'Nintendo 3ds' folder but the '3ds' folder and the 'boot9strap' folder were deleted while I was panicking.

Luma3DS and the homebrew starter kit are the only ones that are useful to you now, the rest are just to get B9S installed in the first place.

The 3DS is working again! Unfortunately there's no FBI/Luma/Homebrew icons on the homepage, though. Should I try to redownload soundhax and play "<3 Nedwill 2016" to launch homebrew? Or is there something else I should do?

So it happens to me too. I followed the instructions on 3ds.hacks.guide step by step, i was on firmware 4.2. First i did the Soundhax soundhax-eur-o3ds-pre5.0.m4a and this works so far. Everything was fine, i did the combination to start and after that was finished the O3DS went to restart. Now it's not working anymore. I can press the start button, but only the blue power LED turns on for a second and directly off again, display keeps dark. I tried another SD Card, copied all the files again on it, but still the same issue. Even with the GodMode9 on the SD Card it won't start. Starting safe mode doesn't work too. Is there someone out there who can help me please?

Copy boot.firm from the latest Luma release to the root of your SD and try again.

  1. Take a (micro) SD card and copy everything off it onto a computer.
  2. [For o2DS, o3DS, or o3DSXL] make sure the SD card read-only switch is not in the lock position.
    • 121c0e10-a039-4f1f-8a53-770dda6be55c.jpg
  3. Reformat the card with these settings in MiniTool Partition Wizard (free edition):
    • Format: FAT32
    • Cluster Size: 32 KB
    • Partition: Primary
    • Disk: MBR

MiniTool Partition Wizard Software Tutorial Guide
    1. Delete Partition
    2. Initialize to MBR Disk -or- Convert GPT to MBR Disk (if it's in GPT Disk)
    3. Rebuild MBR
    4. Create a New Partition [ Create as: Primary | File System: FAT32 | Cluster Size: 32 KB ]
4. With it empty, do a Full Write + Verify Test with H2testw. Do not skip this step.

5. If the card passes, delete the *.h2w test files.
  • :!: If an error was reported, stop the test.
  • Replace the hardware failed card, and go back to step 1 or 2.
6. Create a test custom firmware setup. Don't add back your main files for the moment.
  • You may reuse that CFW starter kit archive at this post.
7. Remove the 3DS battery and hold the (Power) button for 30 seconds. Put the battery back in.
  • This will reset any lingering RAM memory that might prevent booting.
  • Skip step 7 if this is a n2DSXL.
8. If there is a 3DS/DS game cart or flashcart inserted, remove this from the 3DS.

9. Insert the SD card into the 3DS and try booting these. Reinsert several times if the card reader is bad.
  • HOME Menu
  • GodMode9, holding (Start)
  • Luma3DS configuration, holding (Select)
  • Recovery Mode
Edit - Opps, forgot to add.

10. If all goes well:

Didn't wait until next days. Followed your workaround..

Removed battery and hold down power button for a minute. 4GB Micro SD Card with Adapter formatted as primary FAT32 with 32KB, MBR, run test until end, card is ok, no errors, deleted files from test, copied CFW starter kit to the card, booted several times, no luck. Still the same. :nayps3:
