Good morning everyone,

I have been away from 3DS hacking for a long time and am looking to update (Mainly because i want to play ever oasis)

Currently i am running 9.2 sysnand with gateway emunand 11.2 i do not have the fast boot installed ( i think i use menuhacks? I click on gateway to boot into emunand from the menu)

I have a bunch of games on my gateway and i love the extra sd slot in the card so i don't want to move away from it completely.
What i'm wondering is, is there a way to install B9S with some some CFW and then have an updated emunand for playing ever oasis but then also be able to boot into my gateway emunand to continue using all my other games with their saves.

I have read https://gbatemp.net/threads/tutorial-using-luma3ds-gateway-on-b9s.431691/ but don't really get what it's talking about, booting into an emunand to then boot into gateway emunand?

and no idea how i'd go about installing B9S and CFW without wiping my SD card with my current emunand and all the games/save on it.

I'd love some advise if i may please :)

You would want to get rid of Gateway and go with B9S, just follow this guide
https://3ds.guide
You won't have to wipe your SD card and you can either keep using your emuNAND or flash it to your sysNAND (which is all explained in the Guide.)

Thanks so much for the fast response. But i'm still keen to keep the gateway card though. I have read that it's possible to have both. i just don't understand how.

B9S with an updated sysNAND and a 11.2 gateway emuNAND. You would install b9s using the guide, but not transfer emuNAND to sysNAND. Then you would have an updated cfw sysNAND and a gateway emuNAND.

That sounds like a perfect solution! Do you understand this post? https://gbatemp.net/threads/tutorial-using-luma3ds-gateway-on-b9s.431691/

I assume after i follow the B9S guide and have my emunand and updated sysnand i follow the above guide. But it states that if i don't touch any buttons it boots into gateway Emunand (Which is perfect for me) but i'm then unsure how'd id boot into updated sysnand for playing ever oasis.

How do you install .cia files on sysnand? With the gateway you boot into a .3ds installer ( iuse 2soon cia installer) and then install a .cia version of the same thing, as you can't boot .3ds games i'm wondering how we install .cia's?

Thanks for the support!

You would use FBI to install cia files to sysNAND. It is installed as part of the b9s guide.
As for booting to sysNAND, you would need to add a few lines of text to boot_config.ini, can't give you that info directly right now due to being on mobile, but that thread you linked may have a answer and if not you can ask there.
Then it would auto boot to gateway and with a button on boot it would load cfw sysNAND

If you do this, make sure never to boot Gateway mode on sysNAND or your B9S will be removed or console bricked. If you want to play ever oasis you'd be a lot safer if you backed up all your Gateway saves with https://gbatemp.net/threads/importing-gateway-saves-to-cia-games.425743/ then followed the guide and chose to "Move emuNAND" then import your saves to cia versions (either installing with freeShop or converting your 3ds files to cia with GodMode9 and installing with FBI) and not use Gateway again.

I thought gateway mode is just emunand? and you choose to either boot into sysnand or emunand by holding a key on boot? i didn't know from sysnand you can then boot into emunand?

Gateway mode is a CFW like Luma that you can run on either emuNAND or sysNAND. If you boot the console without an SD card in or one that doesn't have a compatible emuNAND on it, it will boot on sysNAND mode. The newer launcher.dat files will give you a warning when booting in sysNAND mode but the older ones won't.

You are amazing, thank you so much. I think i should boot in Luma as default and then gateway if i need to use the .3ds games.
Thanks again!

Actually, if he wants to use the same games in both NANDs, he should have them linked. So he does want to copy EmuNAND to SysNAND to link them. Then he can just copy ticket.db back and forth to sync tickets after installing new games, and they'll show up in both.

Indeed, but as long as he stays on 4.2, it won't be an issue (assuming he opts for my full AIO B9S Pack, it's included). That will give a warning and ask him to press a button combo if no EmuNAND is detected on the card. But as long as there is, GW will go straight to it, and the only way to boot SysNAND mode would be to enter the menu by holding L + select, hold B and hit A while on the "Boot Gateway Mode" option, and then hit the "X" button to accept. So, if, as he says, he already has a proper EmuNAND setup, this would be very difficult to do by accident (for most people). If not, he still just needs to avoid entering any button combos. And even an older version still wouldn't work with the red card out. So, he could just eject the red card if he wasn't sure if the card in question had a valid EmuNAND or not. But I think that's a non-issue since it's working currently. And there is no booting GW without an SD card. AFAIK, only Luma works from CTRNAND. Regardless, that's what's going to be there when he completes the guide, not GW.

Also, your previous post was worse than a Mediscare ad. It's really not that easy to mess up your system. Now, I've screwed up and committed that button combo to muscle memory, so, no going past 11.2 on my N3DS until NTRBootHax is out for me. But I'm one of those few people that booted GW to SysNAND while also using a 9.2 EmuNAND to avoid the need to wait for new *hax payloads (and because Menuhax, while outdated as a main exploit, still boots the homebrew menu faster than any other secondary exploit). Anyone that deleted EmuNAND back when we could run GW from SysNAND, or kept running GW from EmuNAND, will not have that problem.

I replied to your post in the tutorial thread for Luma + Gateway already. I have some pre-made configuration files here that eliminate the need for said tutorial. Just check them out after you follow the guide (btw, I DO recommend copying EmuNAND to SysNAND, see my reply in the other thread for more details). They should do what you seek. They boot Luma by default, and Gateway when you hold "B" (unless you choose the CBM9 one, in which case Luma boots by default, and you hold "down" for a menu). I have included some alternate files you can rename to run GW by default if you did want to. I also include some Godmode9 scripts to synchonize your tickets back and forth for you (not that the original process is complicated, but it saves some steps). There's also one that updates the copy of Luma on CTRNAND for you.

OK, let me know if you have any questions. I like to help (or try anyway ;) ). Hopefully my Internet connection won't go out completely. I have a tech scheduled, but it could take a week. In the mean time, I'm down to one line working on this bonded modem, and it's been losing sync all day (gotta love it when a tree gets into your wires, argh).
