EDIT: This is solved, it wasn't actually broken, it's a bug in Luma 8.0+ as far as I was told, httpwn still worked fine after hitting start to exit, but note it will not work after updating past 11.3 firmware since httpwn is patched.
--------

I need some help, I don't know why this is happening.

I had my old 3DS on 11.2 with whatever the lastest files for everything (and A9LH) which I installed back in January. I never had a single problem with anything from that. I updated this to B9S doing exactly what the guide said to do, but after I got that done, I have the newer HBL running, but ctr-httpwn will not work. It downloads and gets almost done, then says it failed with error code 0xc8a0f842 returned for bossRegisterTask.

It worked before I changed over to B9S, replaced everything from the starter link given by the guide.

Also, I noticed that now when it says to push start to exit httpwn, it quits HBL entirely, it doesn't quit back to the HBL menu.

I don't know if there's some step about having to run some installer for HBL instead of just replacing the files, since the guide also didn't tell you to remove the old Luma before installing the new one, either.

Please note that I am still running my 11.2 firmware, so it isn't because I have 11.4 and it's blocked. I wanted to test running Sun and Moon for the mystery gift events using ctr-httpwn after updating those files and switching to B9S before I did the irreversible jump to 11.5. Don't worry, I will sometime after getting all my shit taken care of, this isn't about me asking about that, it's about why httpwn is not working suddenly, it should still if I'm below 11.4.

Thank you for helping and checking this post.

That shouldn't be an issue with B9S, if anything it would be a problem with Luma3DS. What's more, before I updated to 11.5 and was on 11.4 ctr-httpwn worked flawlessly with me using Luma3DS's Rosalina's HBL entry point. So it seems to be something wrong on your side.
How are you entering the HBL? What version of Luma3DS are you using?

You mean, you were on 11.3. 11.4 patched ctr-httpwn.

And ctr-httpwn works on <11.3 systems with b9s. You have to ignore the error it gives you.

I installed everything with the 3ds guide back in january for A9LH, which included in the guide having you install FBI, HBL, and Luma.

When I used the new guide for upgrading A9LH to B9S, it did not include any step about removing the old Luma, as if this guide assumed you didn't have it or something... and when I was done, discord chat told me to just remove the older duplicate Luma from System Settings menu from which I used to use httpwn from.

I don't know why Luma would cause the problem when you launch httpwn from HBL. The HBL and Luma files I used were exactly the ones linked to in the beginning of the guide, I replaced all the files on my SD card with the new files when it told me to put such and such file to such and such folder.

I gave the error code, doesn't that tell what is happening?

I really hate this, because when I used the old super detailed guide for A9LH, everything worked flawlessly, and the guide was very detailed about every single thing that needed done... this new one didn't say to remove the old Luma, maybe I needed to BEFORE installing the new one... and now I have a system that isn't doing everything that it's supossed to be doing. In my eyes, I just wonder what else isn't installed correctly, 'cause if one thing goes wrong, everything else seems to follow.

"the older Luma from System Settings menu from which I used to use httpwn from" ... No, you removed the older version of Luma Updater, which updates your Luma version and you most certainly didn't use ctr-httpwn from inside of Luma Updater.

For the "push start" issue, you should really look into installing the HBL CIA and that for opening the HBL. Pressing start in that app should let you go back to HBL menu where you can then press Start and then the button needed to go back to the Home Menu without rebooting your system.

Have you tried, oh I don't know, launching ctr-httpwn, ignoring the error it might give, going back the Home Menu, then trying to access something that requires a system update just to see if it works?

Nothing is "installed incorrectly" if you followed 3ds.guide. If anything, boot9strap and possibly Luma have done this to make ctr-httpwn give errors.

Er, yeah, I got my lines mixed up when I got interrupted.

I know, but after copying over the new HBL files and replacing the old ones when the guide told me to move the contents of the starter folder onto my card, this newer one (whatever the version that link in the guide links me to, I assume the latest) doesn't work that way. It starts differently, no black screen with colors and then the menu, it justgoes into the menu now. And when I push start in the HBL menu, it just pops up an icon for the home button that's pointing to the home button, there isn't an exit menu now.

FYI, I launch it from the 3DS menu, so it must already be the cia one... it's whatever the guide back in january told you to install.

Have you tried, oh I don't know,

Please don't get jack-assy with me when I'm trying to get help, not an implied condescending statement when I just got off work.

I was suggested and informed of this in the discord channel, I said I'd try after I eat. I didn't know about the bug in Luma 8.0.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Why not just update to 11.5?

I wanted to take care of this what should have been short downloads of mystery gifts for Sun and Moon before looking into a question I still need answered in the discord: Are there any certain modules that can no longer be installed after updating to 11.5 without something like hardmodding or dsiware, but still work on it? Or does having B9S automatically mean that it doesn't matter and I can install any module that works without needing a lower firmware's security flaw to install anyway?

I wasn't trying to be jack-assy. It was just an obvious question. You never mentioned anywhere other than this post that you would try that. Had you had mentioned it, I wouldn't have brought it up. Also, how the hell was I supposed to know "you just got off work"? :/

I just had a long day dealing with a bunch of asses, so sorry, it just felt like that when you said that. I'm going to try to use it, though I've had another thought that might make using httpwn pointless anyway... and that's if Sun and Moon are one of those games like Smash 4 or Monster hunter that do that memory thing and make httpwn not work anyway... I don't know, I have too little time, but I'll look.

Make a nand backup of 11.2 then upgrade, if you find something doesn't work on 11.5 you can just downgrade.

Now I await the almighty god/know it all of all things 3DS hacking @Lacius to come and tel, you you must upgrade to 11.5 anything less is worthless and no point of downgrading after you've upgraded.

I'd recommend updating to 11.5 and not worrying about ctr-httpwn, but OP already said he was going to do that later, and right now the issue is why ctr-httpwn stopped working. I suggest you read people's posts.

Others are already trying to help the op figure it out, I was simply telling the op that it's possible to upgrade then downgrade if needed as they said it would be an irreversible process.
I recommend you read people's posts, yes two can play that game.

I don't have a problem, you told me I should read people's posts. I was simply saying I did, and you should follow your own advice.
You sarcastically called me out as a "god/know-it-all" in a thread I wasn't participating in. I pointed out that if you had read the top post, you would see why I wouldn't chime in about updating to 11.5 at this or any point. You clearly have a problem. Please don't tag me in anymore posts that include snide remarks, or they'll be reported.

To clarify about updating to 11.5, while on a cfw, there are zero benefits gained from being on a lower firmware. Luna's extra patching patches out everything that was fixed on later firmwares, from arm9 access to payload fixes. I highly recommend ditching ctr httpwn for good and updating to the latest firmware. If you have a separate reason for not updating, please tell me, because it's as simple as going to system settings and hitting update. Nothing special needs to be done.

Umm try reading your original post again, nowhere did you say that. I'll requoate it if it help

You may have it to mean that, however I read what's actually written as I can't read people's minds nor do I read between the lines.

And my problem is you acting like you're mr know it all, especially in a previous thread where I made a suggestion to the op but you came in going "my way is the right way" well you didn't say it in those exact words. But your attitude and replies said as much, I don't read between the lines but when the replies constantly put down what someone says it's not hard to "read"
