I see where you're coming from, but I didn't get a superhero movie vibe (origin or otherwise), I got more of a "Free Willy" feel, or "E.T.", where the creature really is helpless, and while having some (government-exploitable) abilities it won't end up fighting crime, just escaping (hopefully, but who knows) in the end. What I'm saying is that I doubt it will be a (super)hero movie of any kind.
The color correction/tint is something both Del Toro and Jeunet do, either in post production or with color-intense sets and lighting, and while I can see the similarity with
Marvel's patented universal color correction plus some greenish sepia to make it look "50s", it pulls more towards Jeunet's color schemes, visually.
And I didn't see a single quip, one-liner or clever quotable sound bite (the hallmark of Marvel's trailers (and movies)) in the whole trailer.
I'm just not getting the same image from the trailer, I think it's a different category of film. Remains to be seen.
