So yeah, this is a thing.
A movie about a relationship between a girl and the creature from the Black Lagoon.
By Guillermo del Toro.

Trailer oop:

I am intrigued.

Thoughts?

Is this the origin story of a hellboy side character?

Anyway seems Guillermo del Toro is making another sci fi/horror film you can bring a date to.

The trailer however seemed like a marvel film which is not good.

I'm really not getting a Marvel vibe from this, can you elaborate?
Aside from Del Toro, the trailer reminds me most of something Jean-Pierre Jeunet would put out. Nowhere near a Marvel film.

The colour correction for a start reminded me of Captain America. The content something of that and Ant Man. If they made another superhero origin story set in the 40s/50s I imagine you could cut much of that in there and have it work.

I agree a lot of that being from the perspective of the mute woman changes a few things, however that is hardly an unworn path for films either (you will probably get a bad sequel without her in which you follow the wacky hijinks of the creature) and not even for superhero things if you look at something like Thor.

For the other guy you mentioned I have watched The City of Lost Children, and sort of half watched Amélie but never anything else from him. The former was far more surreal than that trailer

I see where you're coming from, but I didn't get a superhero movie vibe (origin or otherwise), I got more of a "Free Willy" feel, or "E.T.", where the creature really is helpless, and while having some (government-exploitable) abilities it won't end up fighting crime, just escaping (hopefully, but who knows) in the end. What I'm saying is that I doubt it will be a (super)hero movie of any kind.

The color correction/tint is something both Del Toro and Jeunet do, either in post production or with color-intense sets and lighting, and while I can see the similarity with Marvel's patented universal color correction plus some greenish sepia to make it look "50s", it pulls more towards Jeunet's color schemes, visually.

And I didn't see a single quip, one-liner or clever quotable sound bite (the hallmark of Marvel's trailers (and movies)) in the whole trailer.

I'm just not getting the same image from the trailer, I think it's a different category of film. Remains to be seen.
