Hey guys! So I recently got my New 3DS (Hyrule Edition) and a Sky3DS+! It works exceptionally well! I know most people on here prefer the CFW route, I took the easy route with this console. Anyways, What's a good cheaper flashcard that can run both Homebrew AND Nintendo DS dumps? Do these older cards work on ANY frimware? I'm seeing that the original DS had some gems out there! Some say the DSTwo, but I've also heard about the on board CPU draining battery life like crazy! Suggestions?

This one is the best for ds games:

Low price, real time save, cheats, Wood R4 core, works on any DSi/3DS firmware, plus 100% compability with all games.

DSTWO is good flash card too, but it is way too expensive and eats battery very fast not only in games, but in sleep mode too.
It has GBA emulator, but it's not that good + on 3ds you can use VC injection to play any GBA game on VC. So you do not need this emu.

I heard it doesn't drain the battery in DS games, it's only in 3DS-mode because the home menu is constantly scanning the cart keeping the onboard CPU running.
I still use my DSTWO for DS games, it's not a big problem to eject it when I'm not using it as there's a dedicated spot in my pouch for it.

Sky3DS+ is decent, but switching games is a hassle and you can't run eShop games with it.
If you haven't updated your console to the latest version yet I recommend installing CFW while you still can, it provides a lot of benefits and extra features and you can still use the Sky3DS+ with it.

I myself use r4i wood. It play games well and does the job. By the way, I know you said you use sky because you want convenience.. but it is really better just to use CFW along with Sky. You risk yourself getting banned with Skyds too. Just saying.

Sweet! Straight to the point, I like that ;) Most likely gonna go for one of these. Are these firmware update able? Are they future proof since they work in DS mode?

When I got my console, I just updated it. Kind of figured that all I really wanted was a way to play 3DS dumps, so I went with the sky. Is kind of cumbersome to go through my games and find the one I want, but it serves it's purpose well. Although, really wish I looked into Homebrew before I updated it, oof! I'm mostly a PC gamer and picked up a 3DS for mobile amusement really haha I took the time to softmod all my other consoles with CFW, but took the painless route here. Bare minimum.

Yeah, it's not completely bullet proof, I know. I added a private header I ripped myself, making it safer, but I know there's always a chance.

The last FW update for this cart was in August 2013, because after that there was no need for update - all ds games still work on all 3ds and dsi firmwares.
On official site they regulary post info about compability of this flashcart with 3ds:
