Hey Everyone! I hope you all have been having fun Splatting it up in Splatoon 2! (yeah, I know it sounds silly)
What are everyone's opinions on the Nintendo Mobile app? I honestly like it! It lets me know what I can order during a certain time frame and get it to Murch, and lets me know what maps are currently available. It seems a lot of people on YouTube have posted that the app sucks, but I haven't had any issues with it. I don't usually play with friends (a lot of my friends couldn't get their hands on a Switch) so I don't see any need for the voice chat. If that's what people are complaining about, why not just use Skype or Discord?

What are your thoughts on the app? I'm interested in hearing what can be improved and what everyone likes about it.

Remember Tempers,
Don't get Cooked...
Stay Off the Hook!

As of now, no. It's very bare-bones so if you don't own Splatoon 2 then you can't really use any of its features.

It's honestly ridiculous that in 2017 there's a gaming system which the gamer needs to use a phone in order to use voice-chat, something that, you know, Dreamcast and PS2 already did back then yet the Switch can't somehow. And more to point, they weren't limited to friends' only but rather everyone within the game.

Those that defend Nintendo's censorship don't really get the spirit of what it is to play online and speak with people from around the world, it's not just "loud, annoying kids" as many love to point out but sensible conversations, jokes and just real talk while playing a game -- It made gaming sessions so enjoyable, relaxed and interesting all in one that it truly added more value to it. Now, while playing online on Nintendo I just don't get that because there's no voice-chat. Sad, really sad.

On a more positive note, I wish that this app had an eShop Store included so I could check for new stuff to download (not something very easy to do outside a Switch/3DS/WiiU).

By the way, if anyone also points out Discord then it just proves that Nintendo failed again.

That's exactly why people are complaining. We will probably wind up using either of those, so why have it in the app in the first place, and why not have it in the system like every other gaming system that goes online?

It is very usefull for checking stats, checking times when a certain level is up. And the best feature is buying 3 slot clothing when your still at a low level

I still haven't tried voice-chat however.

Agreed.

Nintendo sucks at online. As has been the case "forever". The lack of audio chat for the people that want it ... is just another example.

One good strategy for the Switch would be to attract all the XB1 and PS4 users into getting a second console ... The Switch. Splatoon, Mario Kart, Super Mario Odyssey, BOTW are games that could do that. And XB1 and PS4 users expect Audio Chat. Gamers older than 13 expect audio chat. I bet audio chatting during Splatoon would be fun.

Super Mario Odyssey (Switch) - October 27, 2017 ( I think I'll buy a Switch when SMO is released).

I'm starting to suspect that the mobile app is a temporary solution, and eventually we will be able to voice chat directly on the Switch using a Bluetooth headset - but only after a mandatory update that includes "Further improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments to enhance the user experience"

It would be really cool if Mario Odyssey had some type of online play and unrestricted voice-chat but this is Nintendo so it's either their way or none at all.

Im still trying to figure out why they used a mobile app instead of integrating it in the console. Not impressed at all by what they have done. They could have just literally copied what is done by xbox or playstation and change just enough so they don't get sued. I shouldn't have to use Skype to talk to my friends while playing a console new in 2017 to talk when not in specific match formats. Nintendo does things so backwards sometimes
