windows recicle bin mess

it is posisble to disable the recicle bin bullshit in every HDD except my main one?
i like to use the recycle bin to store stuff i don't want, but that i may use again
for example, downloaded pictures of the internet or stuff edited in paint in 5 seconds
also in some cases the fact i may accidentally delete stuff i don't want...

the thing is, this creates a stupid mess inside other HDDS and external drives, there are 2 hidden recycle folders, and i once made the mistake of deleting thoose and all the stuff inside the recycle bin in every hdd was gone
windows is pretty dumb in this matter, joins all the trash from all ntfs formatted stuff into 1 virtual place and open the recicle folder in an external drive will not let me check what is inside this specific storage...

oO so you say in RL if you throw some garbage in your bin you might want to take some paper you put there before out again to use it ?

Sounds like you are the one that makes a stupid mess out of things XD sorry but wtf ?

If you use it to store stuff just create an extra folder for it where you put the files or let them where they are.

my parents had the mistake of putting the car keys in the trash twice. so i should leave the car keys there?
and never happened to you when buying something, immediately throw away the package then need to get the instructions.. or sometimes there was an hidden compartment with the cables or cds you didn't notice when you get your new gadget, and you may need to get them again from the trash...
i even see from time to time a picture on image boards, where the person just brought home a frozen product, throw away the box then need the box back to read the instructions...
if we are talking about used toilet paper, or the leftovers from yesterday pizza, yeah i would be crazy for wanting thoose back

i use shift+delete most of the time, but there are some files i might needor want back later which i decide to don't use shift delete right away...
this is specially true when i am deleting a bunch of stuff and then i remember there is one file or something in the middle that i accidentally selected.
if microsoft, apple and even linux still put the recicle bin in their OS, it's for a good reason.
very rarely i need it, but there are ocasions where it was really usefull, i rather send stuff to recicle bin, than play the recuva\recovery tools lottery trying to get it back

Okay...this is a pretty weird topic.

For starters, I'd say "don't use the recycle bin for anything that you may still need". Yes, this clutters your hard drive a bit more, but windows may throw the contents of the trash if it needs place to begin with. At the worst, you could even create a folder called "WillProbablyNeverNeedThis" or something similar. Move everything over there if you're done with it, and just clean it out every so often.

As to the question itself: I would set the view to 'details', then sort everything there on original location (this arranges them by drive as well). Select everything not in you main drive, then erase all that.


Oh, and as for myself...I just clean out the trash when I'm short on space. It's not unusual for me to have a trash can of a couple gigabytes in size, containing junk from months ago. Unlike IRL, files don't stink up the place.

Youkai thinks it's weird to do such things on (semi-) purpose. The examples you mention are accidents. The main idea is to avoid throwing something in the trash you may still need at all times.
So in answer to that question: no, I've never had thrown away package beforehand (rather the opposite: we still have the package of e.g. my girlfriend's guitar, and she has it for over a month). The same for food packaging. I don't want to sound smug, but I just check these sorts of things before I throw them away.

the beauty of the recicle bin, is that it has a limit on how much it holds and works as first come first go...
so i can send stuff there, if the next day or so, i may need it i can get it back, if it stays there for a while and taking space, the OS will take care of it for me
i use it specially for psd files...
sometimes i am editiing pictures and save the PSD, i assume when i am done i don't need the psd file (it's done, why do i want the project file of something i edited from the internet), so i send it to the recicle bin, and some ocasions i needed to edit again and having the psd would be usefull, so i bring the psd back and edit again.. but if a psd is like a week old it's really trash now
if i put them in a folder, i have to pay attention to the dates.. the beauty of the the recicle bin is, once the threshold is reached, it takes care of the old files i will not use anymore

anyway... i disabled recicle bin in all drives except C, so it is good now
however it doesnt fix other issue.. which is, stupid windows creates theese "$recycle" folders, even with the recicle bin disabled, it creates them no matter what, manually deleting them, just brings them back
