It's pretty fucking insane to me that the console just updates while you're sleeping. Yeah, I should had used DNS or just disabled internet on it, but still.
Maybe I don't remember correctly but the Wii U has something similar to wiiconnect24 which let the Wii u download Nintendo related spotpass stuff while turned off/standby it should be in the power options of the console if you disable it the Wii u won't download the update while sleeping but it will start to download it when it is turn on although in this case you could just turn off your modem and get some DNS or url protection in time before it updates itself

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

I think all it does kill is access to exploit via Browserhax. Might be wrong but man, I have CBHC installed so better be wrong than correct.
It seems CBHC get something wrong when you update the console , it's like it's autoboot function does not work at all so you won't have signature patches/cfw although it seems to be possible to fix this issue but we need to wait a little more because normal haxchi works it is just matter to fix cbhc startup , in any case don't update xd

Wow I just lend my Wii U to my cousin, good thing he doesn't have Internet but I was planning in gifting him a Wii U, now it will be harder to find a hackeable one :|

I don't spoof FW version or play online. First let me say sorry to anyone affected by this unforseen update. I specifically deleted all connection settings after installing the DS game for Haxchi and CBHC. I use the wupinstaller channel to install updates (game not system of course & it is not like many Wii U games are seeing updates these days outside of BOtW).

Didn't turned on my WiiU but I have Haxchi&CBHC and I am using loadiine.ovh DNS. So it should be fine.
I hope this bad new will create a good new : a WiU scene being active again ?! :) I hope someone will find a solution for everyone. Good luck guys and don't update that far, it's always better to wait until we know more (much more).

Aren't installed games with edited tickets (aka "brazilian method") affected by the update?

The brazillian method uses disc tickets. Games installed with it are seen as the real thing, that's why games with a physical version can be installed and used w/o sigpatch.

Your reasoning is correct, with one small mistake.
It uses NUS keys extracted from disc. Not disc ticket itself :)

Literally ANY WiiU you can find in the shops will be in a hackable firmware.
You have more risk buying 2nd hand console than a brand new one.

The Update indeed kills Homebrew , kills cooldboot Hachi (now the Wii u goes straight to the menu without signature patches ) the entrypoint in the browser is dead , do not update !
No does NOT kill Haxchi.

Can you elaborate? Everything I've heard up until now (both rumor and stuff on the technical side) indicate that haxchi (not necessarily CBHC) should work fine.

Yes, they still work as before.

Also this might be the ens of Miiverse.

It uses the NUS key extracted from the disc ticket. Doesn't it?
Edit: My bad, the NUS key was for decryption wasn't it? I think I mixed the 2
Sooo... in the brasilian method you use the DISC ticket (that contains the title key)
But ofc this only works with titles on the NUS and in disc version.
If the title is eshop only, you have to create a fake ticket (with a random sign) with the title key inside (that is used to decrypt the title)

That exactly is. There's no difference between using disc2app to rip and install your own disc and download the game via uTikDownloadhelper, wich downloads the disc ticket from that ticket site. That was, in fact why there was such desperation for the Breath of the Wild ticket to leak, because people were waiting for someone to get the disc and leak the ticket, and that's also the reason why the original BotW leak couldn't be played w/o sigpatch, because even being downloaded via NUS it didn't have a valid ticket.
