How would I do it then?

The PS2 has an internal hard drive with a network cable port. The games are saved on the internal hard drive.
hoo, the modchip is useless in that sense.. it's only used for burned discs
i guess you can try FTP between the ps3 and ps2, but i recall the ps3 was slow as fuck

you need to get one in server (the ps3 is preferable) and the other in client mode

i don't think you can use SMB between them

Yeah, the FTP is what I'm thinking of doing, but I'm unsure what even a Matrix-modded PS2 does.

Only if you install that equipment, non of which needs a modchip, just FreeMCBoot. You shouldn't need a PS3 for anything, transfer via PC.
A PC I don't have...that's why I'm asking this question :)

AFAIK older PS2 HDD software (I've never used Open PS2 Loader) won't install games directly from an imported or burnt disc on an unmodded PS2.
A modchip can fix that. If you don't care PS2's drive is miserably slow.

When the best ones work as they should, PS2 modchips are phenomenal. Imports and backups, including PS1, playing right from the disc tray.
Except installation and repair are outside the skill level of most people.

I don't think it's a modchip.

The PS2 is modified to have an internal HDD and I was just told that I need to have that drive removed so I can add games into it. Also, the thing that drives the PS2 is somethint called Matrix 1.99.

The disc tray doesn't open at all.

Matrix is a modchip. Just that its usefulness is limited if PS2's disc drive has problems.

Games can be installed without using either the modchip or the disc tray.
Remove the HDD and plug it into a PC to copy the games, or transfer the games to the PS2's HDD via LAN using the network adapter.

If your PS2's drive works, but has a broken tray, a flip top or slide tool ought to help.

Firmware updated PS3s I don't think will work.
Before Sony removed OtherOS, you could've tried Linux on the PS3.

If I remove this, how can I plug it to a PC? Is there a special adaptor I need? Because the hard drive looks like the one inside the PC and it needs a special sort of cable. If I can use it like an external hard drive, that would be awesome.

You can use an USB-IDE adapter, such as an external HDD dock, an enclosure, or just a simple adapter like this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/SATA-PATA-I...844163?hash=item489afbe2c3:g:qDAAAOSwXYtY35iY
You will need a tool such as WinHIIP to actually transfer games to the drive.
I googled around a bit, and apparently, the problem with using FTP to transfer games is that the games aren't stored as normal files, so a standard FTP client simply can't handle it. I did find a tool called HDL Dumb that can transfer games over FTP to a PS2, but it's as far as I know Windows only (maybe there's a Linux or Mac version too), and a regular FTP client won't work for the above mentioned reasons. Transferring from a PS3 to a PS2 is probably out of the question. HDL Dump however is supposedly multiplatform, maybe you can find a version of that that will work on an Android phone or something, but you'll have to do the rest of the googling yourself ;)
