Beginner with Linux: Use Lubuntu
Otherwise: Archlinux
If you require Gaming: Windows 10 With telemetry and other arse ache bull shit turned off.
Oh I'm not a beginner with linux :P
I'll weigh all the possibilities tonight. Depending on various elements, I'll most likely go with a Linux flavour.

The increase isn't that big for the average desktop, but yeah, it'll hurt on multitasking unless he adds some more RAM.
I'll dismount it once I have the chance to see if I could add some ram in it. I believe it's soldered ram though. Only one way to know :P

>For Linux, Lubuntu, Debian with XFCE/LXDE or Arch Linux with XFCE/LXDE were my choices in low end systems, going from the easiest one to the "hardest" one. For Debian, do a minimal install with the netinstall disk and install the desktop environment through apt with the --no-install-recommends flag.

If you've already worked with Linux this is probably your best option. Debian can be very lightweight when configured correctly. I have had problems with Chrome and Firefox crash on low-end machines running Ubuntu, Lubuntu, and Mint, but it's run very solid for me on Debian.

Since I know you are not a beginner with unix-like systems, I recommend Manjaro-Architect (a manjaro net installer with the ability to customize your entire installation), Arch Linux, both using LXQt or LXDE or XFCE or Mate or Budgie DE or using i3 WM (there is others WM but i3 is the less painful to deal with), Lubuntu/Xubuntu/Ubuntu-Budgie/Ubuntu-Mate, Puppy Linux or freeBSD/GhostBSD/TrueOS.
