LuigiBlood, of 64DD emulation fame, has informed Source Gaming that the Switch Firmware contains a built in NES emulator.

It's not really surprising considering Nintendo has announced releasing NES games for online subscribers - but it is interesting to see that nintendo is moving towards universal emulators as opposed to self contained emulators packaged with individual games.

So what do you guys think? Any idea what the significance of "flog" could be? Famicom log?

Im always confused by what they mean by "retail systems" and retail whatnot, isn't every switch retail? How much of an idiot am I?

Retail vs. Dev units.

The people who make the games have special switches (dev units) with tools/apps that aren't available on retail switches (i.e. the ones you and I can buy in a store).

I actually do want to clarify something real quick. When we credited LuigiBlood in the tweet, it had more to do with the fact that he informed us of the news in our Source Gaming discord server. He didn't actually datamine anything AFAIK. I think it was more Yellows8 an Plutoo who did that. I just wanted to clear up that, he was the one who gave us the news first, not the one who found it in the code.

Freaking finally, Welcome to 2017, Nintendo, something other companies like Sony have been doing since the PS2.

still, the dam consoles been out for under a year and it's already got a exploit(albeit not quite useful to end users), seeing system apps hidden from view, and dumping models from games, holy shit how is this happening

did ps2 run ps1 naively or via emu, I would think naively, but I get the ps1 emu being built into ps3 though

Right, but it still stands that the PS3 and Xbox 360 used emulation for older games, universal emulation is something Nintendo should've done a long time ago. PS1 on PS3 is using PS1 hardware I believe.

ya, I would like just central app, since you can't organize your dam home menu now -.-

cause they did more stupids by reusing the 3DS arch for their sysmodules so we already know what to look for

Let's just hope it's the same emulator in the NESmini.

Which isn't all that great in all honesty, a lot of the games sound tinny and have inaccurate sounds. There's plenty of comparison videos; they should use one more accurate.
