Hey guys,

So I have 2 slims that I updated to 3.60 earlier. I noticed something weird:
- Vita 1: Total memory capacity 991 MB
- Vita 2: Total memory capacity 1039 MB

So I'm wondering, what gives? Is this something normal that I don't know about, or might it be (worst case scenario) a symptom of a likely-to-corrupt memory for one of them?

If this is indeed normal, I'm interested to know, what does your system report your total as?

might be a update .. im not sure i have a OLED ? 2.5 gig free i thought the slim was the same....
What do you mean? I think you're confusing something here. The OLED has no internal memory. That 2.5 GB is your memory card.
The slim has 1 GB internal memory, hence my question about the actual size

Oh and I'm talking about the total capacity, not the free space.

Thanks for the reply though :)

Weird, checked with VitaIdent and it says that my internal storage is 1.50 GB
And that's the same size as my ur0 so I'd assume that mine actually is 1.50 GB?

The OLED does have 2.5GB internal memory, it's simply not usable like it is on the Slim without using Henkaku. The Slim also has 2.5GB total, 1.5GB is kept for system things and the remaining 1GB is for the "memory card".

As to what's going on, it's likely just some random system files or an update or something. It's 40MB, it's not like you're missing a few GBs or anything, so it's definitely not any kind of corruption.

If you have a memory card inserted, it will only show you the 1.5GB because the remaining 1GB is sort of "deactivated". At some point in the future we'll be able to remount that 1GB partition though.

Oh that's new to me. I didn't know about that 1.5GB hidden partition or the 2.5GB OLED hidden partition. I guess that makes @SuperDan reply viable.

It can't be any sort of files cause I'm talking about total capacity of the nand, not the free space.

Thanks for the reply!

I'm feeling compelled to bump this. It would be nice to see some reports from people with a slim about their total internal memory capacity

On my slim, the total is 1215MB. It's on 3.65 currently.
It's a shame we can't use the internal memory along side the memory cards, since the additional little bit of space could fit a few indie games or media of some kind.

I'm interested how you have 1.2GB total when it's supposed to be 1GB total available, especially since you said you were on 3.65, meaning henkaku didn't unhide the remaining 1.5 GB

@Tom Bombadildo Maybe there is more to this than initially thought :)

Thanks for the reply Magical Sheep :)

Ah, you're welcome. :)
I checked on my PSTV, which is also on the latest, and it shows 1075 MB free.
It could be caused by some residual files are staying around after the system updates or something. Since it varies on different devices, I don't think it would be caused by a partitioning error. Maybe the allocated user storage is dynamic and shifts depending on what the system needs. Those are just some ideas, I doubt they're correct though.

As Magical Sheep and myself mentioned earlier, it's more than possible it's just some update or extra file lowering the user shown NAND. The Vita file system can be a bit weird, especially at reporting total available size (which also happens to 64GB memory cards, some report 57GB, some report 59GB). I don't know if the Vita will allocate any extra space it needs from the user partition, but it's possible that's why people have different values.

Thanks for that. I'd still like to get some more users reporting their total capacity to give this theory some validity.

As for the 64 GB being 57 or 59, in that thread reporting it, it was established that it apparently was attributed to the card model. I think the Japanese always showed 59GB

Hi Tom,

How safe/unsafe is the usage of the hidden 2.5 GB on the OLED model? Have you ever used it for a Vita Game? (I assume this will not work). Maybe it works for RetroArch Roms(?)

I don't remember reading anyone ever using it. Just that the usage of it may be dangerous.

Last I remember, a lot of games had save problems when run from ur0. They either couldn't load them at all, or couldn't save to ur0 itself.

For ROMs it'd be ok to store them there, just make sure the save directory is on the memory card itself.
