Hi all,

It has been confirmed in february that the Switch's devkit will be at the outstanding price of 500$.
Since then, no news, even on the official dev portal (still shipping 3DS/WiiU kits, but nothing more).

Did I missed something ? Do we have any information regarding the Switch's devkit release date ?

Cheers :)

???

Easy cowboy, I don't give a damn about an overpriced chimney ornement with almost no games.
On the other hand, if it is developpers friendly, that's a deal.

Apparently, you don't read before posting.

Have you already registered on the developer portal? If not, I think Switch devkits are only available after registering and verifying (they have some strict guidelines on qualifying for Switch development) whereas Wii U and 3DS are more readily available.

Saddly not really, I am registered as dev and verified but still only wii u and 3ds only for me.
You have to contact nintendo with evidence of games dev to be sure to be accepted that not an open door

I am surprised anybody thinks they could just go in and get a devkit without having any game experience. For the 3ds and Wii U, this was opened up at the end of their lifetime. If they did this for the Switch, uncalled for things could happen. They also don't want any Middleware floating around the internet

Looks like they want to see proven track records for developers before granting Switch devkits. Not actually a bad idea for assuring quality of content.

Not to mention the possibility of someone getting a devkit just to RE it and release exploits and stuff. It's a bold move that no sane person would try to do but it's nice to see that Nintendo has countermeasures against it.

Thank you all for your answers, :)

Of course I'm registered on nintendo dev portal but can't access the Switch either.

There's a paradox here: not everybody could afford 2000/3000€ for a wiiU devkit to prove his value.
If the Switch's is only 500€, it must be to atract new commers with only general programming experience.

Let's take a bet, shall we ?
Unity is dedicated to beginners, I'm sure they will welcome them their creations like they did for wiiU.
It may just take more time for them to access the kit. Let's live in hope :)

There's no bet, just reality.
You can get the kit right now, you only have to show a suitable background.
Go develop some games with an existing SDK, like e.g. for 3DS or publish some on Steam for PC.
When you show up a portfolio with a couple of semi-successful games up to some standard, they will agree to give you a kit, I assure you any indie game developer can do that, you just have to contact them.

PS/OT: Talking about idiotic tastes and indie games, now I want to play LLTQ on the Switch... Hmmm... perhaps if someone convinces the developer to apply for it, I am quite sure Ren'Py can be ported to the Switch easily.

Thank you very much for this advice !
It's wise, indeed.

I don't expect selling anything on steam, but I could give it a try with the few things I already developped.
Who dares wins :]
