Ok so Ive royally messed up... as I was preparing to upgrade from Gateway and A9HL to Boot9strap, I decided to convert my gateway saves to .cia saves, which requires booting into gateway. Well, I am on 11.4, and I tried booting gateway... black screen. Turned console back on, now it only boots into sysnand 11.4, no luma, no a9hl, no gateway. Did some quick research and others have done the same thing, apparently booting gateway while on 11.3+ kills a9hl.

What are my next steps? I have backups of sysnand and emunand from a few months ago, just after udating to a9hl. Is my only option to hardmod? I have an old 3ds laying around on like 9.8 sysnand with gateway, anyway to use that with a dsiware hack?

Also, if I somehow manage to hardmod/restore my old nand backups, is there a way to get my cia saves from my current sd card? thanks for the help, Ive done messed up this time...

You're going to either need to hardmod or check to see if you can use the DSiWare method on 3ds.guide

Ok after a little more researching, it looks like ill have to hardmod. But, I think I have 2 options.
1. hardmod and restore from my previous nand backups from a few months ago
2. hardmod and immidietly install the new boot9strap hack

which would be the better option? and as I was wondering, what has been lost from this and can I recover anything? Thanks

You don't need to hardmod. Install b9s on your other 3DS and do the DSiWare method. If you had separate NNIDs they will get stuck together (they will both have to be on one system) unless you call Nintendo. But otherwise nothing bad will happen (except that you'll lose the saves on the one that lost a9lh - it will have to be formatted for the system transfer).

You could also choose to wait, as NTRBootHax might get implemented which would mean you could install b9s with a DS flashcart instead of a hardmod or DSiWareHax.

Edit: Actually you won't lose the saves --- backup your SD card data before you do anything else, then after you get b9s, restore the backup using GodMode9 with the "safe" option, then put your SD card backup back on your card, and your saves (for installed games) will work again. You should also be able to downgrade and have Gateway work again, so you can recover the Gateway saves.

That would be amazing, however I thought I read that in order for the dsiware method to work, you needed an actual version of the diware, not a pirated copy. I don't have any legit dsiware games on either system..
